View Full Version : Tin Man
jennylee27 11-13-2007, 07:29 PM Is anyone planning to try out Tin Man? It stars Zooey Deschanel, Alan Cumming, Raoul Trujillo and Neal McDonough.

It starts Dec. 2, and in this age of striking and no new TV, it looks like a good thing to try.
newfgirl 11-15-2007, 09:45 PM Definitely JennyLee! (I know, it is quite the stretch that we would watch the same show ;) )
Wizard of Oz is one of my all time favs + Sci-Fi = Warm Fuzzies.
Their Infinite Oz or whatevr on the website is one of the coolest web promo things I have seen.

jennylee27 11-15-2007, 10:05 PM Ah, NG, I'm so glad you are here. I need someone to talk to!
That is a cool site, although it made me very dizzy.
halfrek 12-03-2007, 02:27 PM so i watched the first part of this series. i am mostly "meh!" about it. nothing really new and a bit too free with the retelling of the story. i have to wonder if this isn't a mish mash of the Oz story combining it with Wicked, which i have not seen. so i really couldn't say for sure...just an educated guess. ;)

I agree about the meh. I was expecting better and I didn't evn finish watching last night. I wasn't crazy about the story or the liberties they took with it. I have seen Wicked and Wicked is clever and interesting and gives you a different perspective of the story. This was just a bad re-hashing of the story. I'll give it another try, I guess, but I don't think it's going to get any better.
jennylee27 12-03-2007, 07:41 PM Huh, not so good reviews. I haven't watched yet. It conflicted with other stuff, so I just recorded it in the middle of the night. I thought it would be a good writers strike time passer, but maybe not. Oh well, at least it's only 6 hours long, right?
Karri 12-04-2007, 01:22 PM I haven't watched it yet either, wanted to record it all so I didn't have to wait but the reviews aren't promising. :undecide:
jennylee27 12-07-2007, 04:13 PM Well, I finally got around to watching part 1, and am wondering if any of you all made it through? There's so little on TV these days, that I'll probably watch the whole thing. I found it interesting and some of the characters are good (Kane, the Tin Man is best). But Azkadalia is rather odd, and while I suppose she is a take off on the Wicked Witch, I'm not sold on her storyline yet. I do like Zooey in her role as DG, so I'm likely to ride it out.
newfgirl 12-07-2007, 05:18 PM I have seen mixed reviews - some really good some not so good.
Either way a whopping 9 million viewers watched over the 3 days - Lots of network shows don't even get that and it set record viewership for SciFi.
I have them recorded but haven't watched yet though. I am rationing out my non-repeat/non-reality shows.
PhillyGirl2873 12-07-2007, 06:23 PM I haven't finished them yet. Tivo was kind enough to tape a Doctor Who marathon so I will probably wait until I run out of stuff I like watching before I try giving it another chance.
jennylee27 12-08-2007, 10:50 AM I hear you guys. We shall soon be desparate for original TV programming....
Karri 12-10-2007, 11:16 AM So far I have watched 20 minutes of ep 1. The dialog was painful to hear. I will have to be super bored to watch the rest I think.
PhillyGirl2873 12-10-2007, 12:29 PM I made it through Ep 1, but it was while multi-tasking so I didn't have to pay too much attention to it. I'm holding the rest of the episodes in case I get desperate for something new to watch.
jennylee27 12-14-2007, 10:05 PM Ok, I've finished it. After sort of half-heartedly sitting down to watch hour 3, I couldn't wait to watch the last 3 hours as quickly as possible. I think the show got better with each passing hour, so I recommend finishing it. You do learn something in part 3 that helps clarify that whole issue of it being a good enough homage/adaption of the original:
DG is not supposed to be Dorothy, but actually Dorothy Gale's several hundred years later descendant.
I also must say, I so  Neal McDonough. I enjoyed him muchly in Traveler, though he was so underused there. Here, he was awesome! I see why they named the show after his character. He stole it for me.
Alan Cumming is great too. I loved that they used his Broadway dance skills in this!
So, maybe you won't 100% like it as much as me, but I think it's worth finishing.
