So I recorded the Doctor Who marathon on scifi yesterday and managed to watch 4 eps. So here is what I have learned so far.

Chrisopher Eccleston is a goof as the Doctor.
I had total dejavu with the opening sequence since I vaguely remember the old old Doctor Who. This is the Doctor Who that I remember

So on Torchwood Captain Jack likes guys. On Doctor Who he hits on Rose. Then the Doctor says that people from his time will basically do anything. :)

Captain Jack is an equal opurtunity flirter. ;)

CE is a bit goofy, but I still like his Doctor.

I'm rewatching the same episodes also. It's been awhile since I've seen some of the 1st season episodes.

ETA: That old opening was a thing of childhood nightmares for me. That's the Doctor I remember most growing up.

I haven't seen much of Jack from the Doctor eps yet but so far I kind of like him better. He had more snark and less apt to burst into tears. He seems to do a bit of crying on Torchwood.

Ya so far CE has been enjoyable. :)

That Doctor Who was the whole reason I had no interest in watching this new version. I was so young that all I really remembered was the creepy intro and the Doctor with the fro and the scarf.

Oh and someone needs to go smack the Scifi channel for leaving out eps here and there in their marathon.

yay!, Karri is getting caught up in the Whoverse. :) it must have been a bit tough to not have seen Capt Jack from the beginning and get thrown into his "new" emo character on TW. his first incarnation was much more fun and flirty. :naughty:

i found it odd to see him on TW being all dark (which i did like) and then back on Who being that same flirty rogue from S1 Who. i suppose i will have to see if i like him better in S2 of TW.

as for CE being the Doctor...it is a toss up. he is a bit goofy but he was darker underneath, more tortured than DT. though i will always love my "first" doctor, i have come to adore DT for what he brings to the show and the character. i just wish we could have had CE for one more season. :frown:

At first I was wasn't sure about DT, I wasn't sure if I would like him, but he ended up winning my heart just as much as CE. I love them both as Doctor even though they played it a bit different. And actually at first I thought DT was a bit goofy. And yeah, I wish we had a second season of CE, one just seemed too short.

ETA: Re-watching Bad Wolf and I was just reminded of one of my favorite Captain Jack quotes, "Ladies, Your viewing figures just went up."

ETA2: And another one, "Well ladies, the pleasure was all mine. Which is the only thing that matters in the end."

I'm thinking about Jack's transformation also. When we first meet Jack he's a con man. Then he runs off with the Doctor and Rose and life is great and fun. Then he dies and gets brought back to life and gets transported back in time and stuck on Earth to live alone without dying for about 100 years? I think that would make me a bit cranky and emo too.

ok I watched more eps. So how did Jack get back to earth after being brought back to life and then left behind?

Dr. Who Jack= Spike
TW Jack= Angel

I have seen maybe 4 eps with DT as the Doctor and I am still missing CE. I liked CE better I think. He was goofy while DT seems more like a flake.
So far Bad Wolf was my fav ep. :)

It was explained at the end of Season 3 of Doctor Who...when Captain Jack was left behind by the Doctor and Rose he used his time travel watch thingy to go back in time, but the Doctor had already fixed it so he could only jump once. So Captain Jack jumped to the 19th Century or turn of the 20th century (can't remember exactly) and was stuck in time. Spolier tagged in case you haven't seen it yet or want to wait to find out.

I thought the same about DT in the beginning, but you'll get used to him pretty quickly. He's a bit flaky, but he has a temper. He's not to be crossed.

Alright, please don't throw rotten tomatoes at me or something but David Tennant is MY doctor. (reference to the CiN special :71:)

I started watching with CE as the doctor and I REALLY liked him but (since I watched it only this year) I knew he wouldn't stay very long, so this might the reason why I never got too attached to him. I was kind of itching from the start to get to eps with the "new" doctor. And when I re-watched season 1 a couple of weeks ago, I actually squeed and bounced on my bed when CE regenerated into DT (feeling slightly bad at the same time because I THOUGHT I should feel sad)

Can't help it but - for me - David Tennant is the perfect Doctor.

wow that kind of sucks to be Jack

I have seen a bit of the temper so it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Also is it just me or did the theme change ever so slightly between the first and second season of Doctor?

Yeah, That's what I was refering to in my earlier post about why I think TW Jack is so emo, but I forgot you haven't seen all the Doctor Whos yet.

yeah, true about Jack. he wasn't exactly handling his situation very well. ;) how far up in the 3rd season of DrWho are you? b/c that last 3 eppys did sort of explain it all as far as Jack is concerned.

re: theme. yes i believe it did change just a bit to reflect the new doctor just as the opening visuals also were changed slightly.

had to giggle at your Angel/Spike vs Jack analogies. never realized that those characters were all quite similar. :)

as a purest, i highly recommend, if you can, watching S2 of DrWho in order. here is the Season Two (http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/episodes/2006/index.shtml) eppy list. which i am sure you could've found on your own. ;) the two parter, Rise of the Cybermen and Age of Steel are essential to the end of the series. whatever you do, DO NOT watch Army of Ghosts and Doomsday before the rest of the series. i suppose the order of the eppys aside from the two, two parters isn't that important. :undecide:

*squees* in anticipation of you getting to see the season finale of TW. i found the second half to be a bit of let down and a bit :eek2: "that was it"? but overall the two parter is great. it of course ties into the S3 Dr.Who 3 parter with Jack. ;) of course it is no less lame than some of the season finales of Angel or Buffy. :71:

that is awesome that they offer S1 on Netflix. i haven't tried that feature yet but i have noticed they are adding more stuff to the list available all the time. yay!

i have to admit that i find the "new" Dr Who, starting with Nine, as rewatchable as Buffy, Angel or Firefly eppys...where you know the characters and some of the great lines. i find myself watching Who more often and enjoying it ever more than the first or second time. yeah i am a Who geek. ;)
