Watching the previews at first I thought Olivia was Cate B. Olivia has the same poise and grace I've seen in Ms. Blanchett. I'm looking forward to seeing the Pilot episode!

Casting directors will bring in the actors, schedule auditions, they have nothing to do with who is actually chosen, except for weeding out people they are pretty sure the Producer and Studio aren't going to be interested in.

Not to say that they don't have a good sense as to who is going to be liked.

So, it really is true. It pays to know someone in show business in order to break in! Good thing I don't want to move to Hollywood! NY on the other hand! :biggrin:

If you watch Evie's audition tape on the DVD's, she didn't know anyone but she had an agent that submitted her. She was up in Canada. JJ and the other producers had seen bunches of actresses but weren't really struck by anyone they had seen. The casting director showed JJ Kate audition tape and he saw something he liked, they flew her in to audition. JJ had to fight to get Evie because the studio wanted an actress with a name (hate that from the studios) but JJ won out.

It can happen in an instant. I know Sarah Clarke who played Nina on "24" the first season. Same whirlwind casting, they had been searching and searching - they cast Sarah on the spot. She went right to the set and filmed her first scene - no time for wardrobe - she wore her own clothes. Her mom didn't even know she had gotten the job until she had finished filming.

I wouldn't say you have to know someone (sometimes it helps but not always)

I don't know if you watch "Mad Men" on AMC but Jon Hamm (who happens to be on the short list for - lead actor in a drama series - Emmy) are really good friends and I met both of them doing theater in St. Louis - not exactly NYC or LA.
