There was much turmoil, confusion, and general unhappiness yesterday in the N.U.M.B.E.R.S. and N.E.R.D. "ships" when they were moved from the "Group Ships" category to "General Theories". I wrote this in the N.E.R.D. er... formerly group, now thread, and lostbylost suggested that I post it here...

Hmm. I reckon some people actually do go directly to the Groups section, but they are looking to interact with fellow fans of a particular character, character pairing, or actor. The link to the section is after all called "Group Ships - Unofficial Fan Groups and Shippers"

I've been contributing to, or lurking on, at least 5 of the "Group Ships" for a while. None of those "ships" are dedicated to specific characters or actors. They're all dedicated to specific theories or concepts or a "we all believe that the ____ is/are a key to solving the mystery of ____ "conviction. I would never have found those "ships" if not for links to them that were posted in really interesting discussions elsewhere on the threaded board.

I think the mods are doing a GREAT JOB with this deep and complex board. <- that there is a period!

But here's a suggestion that might help. A new category ... " focused discussion groups" .... A section suitable for groups of people on the board who have common interest in particular themes/theories/whatevers to postulate about and discuss their particular obsession and distinguished from the "Group Ships" area where folks are more interested in individual characters and their relationships.IMVHO, the focused discussion groups that already exist on this board - WHISPER, NUMBERS, NERD, etc., are special, and need to be in their own, "special" category, visible on the homepage.

this whole "you moved my ship/group" and " i am not happy" about stuff is ridiculous. IMO

why should there be a NEW section created just for groups to discuss theories?
we have a section for that already. it is called the General Theories section.
i guess it would be possible to create a sub directory for the general theories section, but it seems
a bit redundant to me. as for having a visible section for discussion groups,
um, what exactly would you call the General Theories section? b/c to me that means that people
ARE discussing theories there.

if you think that having a seperate section will keep some posters out of your thread, then i think you are mistaken.
that is not how this board works. all threads are fair game.

you are correct. we do love to hear them.

perhaps if you all had allowed me to discuss this with the MODs and brainstorm about it
for a bit , then i would not have been so bugged by seeing the suggestion here, so soon after
all the complaining that i saw yesterday.

the MODs are all busy people as are the posters here. it takes time to sort through/discuss/brainstorm
just how we can make this site better for everyone. we will get to it and have a reply for you all as soon as
we can. that though may be later instead of sooner.
