View Full Version : The others? Taking the baby? Goes well with Purgatory theory...

Hi guys,
I'm new posting on this board but I've been reading other boards for a while now... ;)

One theory that interests me...that the island is acutally a purgatory and that the "survivors" are all actually dead and the people they think died just went straight to heaven or hell......seems to go well with this episode.* What if "the others" are simply trying to take the baby because, as it would have never lived in the real world, it could have never committed sins and therefore need to go to heaven as soon as it was born since.* * Maybe the "others" who we think are all so bad are actually angels (or demons) that are charged with straightening out the survivors as they are judged.*

As for Ethan Rom, Ethan was the name of a wise name in the Old Testament.* Or, if you rearange the letters in Ethan Rom, it spells "More Than" like more than human?* Interesting...

No replies yet...so sad! :-[
Anyways, I was thinking over this a little more, and the "others" being angels or demons would also explain whey sayid heard the whispers in the forest but saw no one since angels/demons could only be seen when they wanted to be.

Doesn't anybody want to say something in response to this topic???

thing is, I don't think too many people agree with the Purgatory theory

I'm not positive if this is true or not, but I think it is. I read that the writers/producers of LOST have said in interviews that the purgatory/they're all dead theory is not what is actually happening/going to happen. This seems to be the main theory that all new posters come up with, but it's been come up with dozens of times before, and apparently been put down by the writers/producers of LOST themselves. That is probably why no one is responding, because it is an old defunct theory.

Good theory but if I remember my religion ( hahaha been a long time) don't all unbaptised babies (this may just be in Catholisism) go to purgatory? So Claire's baby wouldn't be going to Heaven if this is the case.

I personally like the rearrangement of Ethan Rom to the "Other Man" better. But this is kinda off topic. As far as the theory, I don't think it's purgatory. I thought that originally, but now I have enough clues to drop that tidea. I think that the writers purposefully leave the place for the purgatory theory open just to leave this possibility.
After all, they need us to have dozens of theories, draw maps of theories, and go crazy over theories. :)
