View Full Version : Look out for an observer...JJ Abrams
seaquelost 09-19-2008, 07:37 PM I haven’t been involved much regarding the different sites that provide info on the show. I just learned of this today…..regarding an “observer”. Does anyone know if this is something that was isolated to only one episode or is this someone we should be looking for throughout the entire season?
BBC's Chris Moyles talked to JJ Abrams about Fringe. JJ's other word of advice "Look out for an observer".
Hidden in the opening title sequence just after the words Dark Matter appear on the screen, are the hidden words "Observers Are Here" (http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h220/seaque/aobserver.jpg).

There are little clues in every episode, about the next episode
Okay....I'm getting the hang of this show now.

Well, if he happens to be observing this thread... HELLO! I'm a big fan and I am really enjoying the Fringe! Thanks for pulling me out of the real world for a while! ;)
If he isn't... darn.:frown:
buddha with mace 09-20-2008, 08:25 AM I stood next to a gigantic poster at a bus stop of Olivia Dunham in the water tank, and written in her hair, very faintly at the bottom right, is the word "observed".

Cool! SO with this new converter boxes for our TV's MAYBE WE are the ones being observed? LOL!
So, who is this observer? Is he/she from another planet? Another time dimension?
seaquelost 09-20-2008, 11:15 AM V-e-r-y interesting, Buddha. I wonder now that Olivia has been observed, she is now ready to be recruited into Boyle's special investigation. Loraine Daisy anagrams to "Ready Liaison".
Over at fringetelevision they think it might be this bald guy.
Seen in preview:

Seen in SOS ep at the hospital:

Ahasuerus 09-22-2008, 12:55 PM Baldy hanging in the background seems highly plausible of what we've seen at this point.

Out of curiosity, have the words in her hair been mentioned anywhere else? I'm thinking about taking a picture of the poster and putting it up online.
And I do think it might have something to do with that baldy fellow...

I haven't seen it posted elsewhere, however, I'm a little late in coming to the online Fringe world. I haven't followed the ARG (I think there's one). When you mentioned the poster I did google for shots of posters. The only reference I found is on the following link. You'll notice that there are more posters.....click where it says "other Fringe posters here". Maybe you'll see the poster you saw at the bus stop. I don't know which one you've seen with "observed" in her hair. I looked in the ones of Olivia....looked in the right corner (that have her hair in that area) I didn't see anything. If you see it....and need a zoomed-in screencap...let me know. I'm pretty good at that stuff.

Yeah, I think you should post it. JJ said to watch for observers. I would say that a mention of being "observed" is interesting.
buddha with mace 09-23-2008, 02:49 PM Here it is:

I was doing it quickly, so I didn't get the best shot.
And here is the poster. I put a blue star next to where "observed" is:

Notsolost42 09-23-2008, 04:13 PM I think that the observers are those from a distant planet who time traveled as on the island...maybe they too have four toes....

Wow...cool! So this was a huge poster you say? It must have been to be able to make out that word. They have some really awesome posters out there don't they?
I think that the observers are those from a distant planet who time traveled as on the island...maybe they too have four toes....
lol....we'll there's a huge amount of pseudo-science in this show.....it wouldn't surprise me if they were aliens. ;)
Seriously though....I'm definitely going to keep my eye out for baldy again....and any other people that might look to be "observers". I didn't find out about this until after the last ep....now I'm starting to catch-on to this show. Just no more dental equipment scenes! That was too disturbing.
Ahasuerus 09-24-2008, 10:15 AM Baldy was one of the passengers on the train that Dunham ran by at the end...really quick shot.
I, for one, am really hoping they don't go in for ties to Lost. I love Lost but would really hate to see the continuities meld. I think each show is great in its own way. Aliens too. I would prefer to see them firmly stay in the bounds of present quasi-possible theoretical science rather than devolving into being an X-Files "aliens are out there" clone. There is too much rich material for this show to mine while standing on its own two (five toed ;)) feet than to have to be derivative of other works.
Just saying...
Ahasuerus 10-01-2008, 11:52 AM So...the Observer appears. Obviously many questions exist, most likely better for another thread. They are definitely doling out the pieces that are teased faster than on Lost, I would assume to build a curious fanbased quickly so the show can take hold.
Madge 10-01-2008, 12:16 PM In the first episode Abbadon said that it seemed like experiments were being performed on humanity or something to that extent. The Observer could be part of the team doing these experiments and the person there first hand to watch and see what happens. Maybe his binoculars are capturing data when he uses them and sends them back to the evil lab.
Man, Lost was easier to wrap my head around than this show has been, but I'm loving it.
buddha with mace 10-01-2008, 12:16 PM Agreed, Ahasuerus, it's a whole lot faster than Lost with presenting its mythology, but it's got enough mystery and unanswered questions to keep me coming back. The whole observer thing just got way more interesting.

seaquelost 10-03-2008, 12:09 AM I agree with Ahasuerus too, Buddha. You're right....the observer has made things more interesting for me.
So Madge, you think he's a bad guy, eh? I'm not so sure yet.
He seems quite child-like in a way doesn't he? Maybe it just seems that way to me since he shows no emotion.
Ahasuerus 10-03-2008, 10:53 AM I'm holding out judgment, but my gut is not to think of him in terms of good or bad. I think he is what we thought he is (to paraphrase Denny Green ). He is an observer, so he stays outside of things. Now the interesting thing is that in saving Peter and Walter, he would seem to not be completely neutral...or at least not in that case. For someone so seemingly without feeling, why would he care...kind of like Roy Batty at the end of Blade Runner...why do you save the person in question?
Madge 10-03-2008, 11:31 AM I agree with Ahasuerus too, Buddha. You're right....the observer has made things more interesting for me.

I don't know if he's neccessarily bad or not, but from how he was jotting notes and making the call it seems he's on a team. He could have been looking at another experiment taking place. I don't know, just a thought.
Ahasuerus 10-03-2008, 01:10 PM An interesting side thought. Broyles mentions the belief that there is a group known as the Pattern, or a collection of phenomena known as the Pattern...there's a Pattern going on that he described as someone using the world as their laboratory. We may or may not have assumed that MD is part of the pattern, but it is also just as possible that they are another player in the game trying to figure out what's going on. Then the Boardroom could be looked at in the light of a collection of representatives of groups attempting to work out what's going on...Broyles from a governmental perspective, Nina from one private sector player, etc...
Therefore, the Observer may be the first actual representative of the Pattern we've seen yet. It also makes another interesting game of sorting out whether the week's problem is part of the Pattern or part of the scientific background of the players (I'm thinking of Penrose and his son, which may not have been Pattern, but rather a residual of the research done back in the day by Walter, Penrose and Bellie)
