Anybody?

I was kinda surprised to come over here and see that there was no thread for this show :shocking:

So, who thought what?

I liked it, very much.
Keitel and Imperioli were really good.....and the main guy was pretty good himself.

I would definitely think this has a chance of being a very entertaining show.
100%
Almost forgot to mention how AWESOME the music was!

and how much I enjoyed the interaction between his 2 lives.....his girlfriend's voice coming through the radio and the doctor on the tv.

Very cool.

i am glad that you liked it. and i do agree that it is a good attempt at americanizing this show. HOWEVER, IMO it pales in comparison to the original. i wish i was kidding with that comment.

this show may get better but i cannot see how they are going to do that at all. the UK version was only 12 eppys. 6 eppys in one season and 6 in the next. they have since made a sequel which is pretty good but still doesn't come as close as the original. the point i am trying to make is that for them to drag out the show to an entire US season...i am not sure it will survive.

some picks that really bugged me. and yes, i have to compare the characterizations from the UK and US versions.

Gene US, not nearly as tough as Gene UK. Keitel is a great actor however he just does not cut it compared to Philip Gleniester's Gene. i wonder if Colm would have done a better job. i did not get to see the original pilot so i cant really compare.

Sam Tyler UK would not have cried like this guy did. yeah i get that it is a different take on the series but the US one is just not being portrayed as a closed off, absorbed in his job character. this one is a bit too much of a softy. IMO

they are following the basic storyline from the UK series and i personally find this more than boring. i already know who done it and what happens. i had hoped they would attempt something a bit more original. :undecide:

i will give it one more chance but for reasons stated above, i just cannot deal with the IMO bad characterizations that have been either watered down or mutated beyond recognition. i know that a few UK shows that were americanized never made it b/c they just could not "transform" them. i know that Coupling didnt last. The Office only lasted b/c the network gave it a chance but the fans of the original UK version were not thrilled initially with the US version. it took quite a bit for it to find its niche. this show either needs some major reworking or barring that, a network that will give it a chance and not ax it b/c ratings are poor.

sorry to rain on your parade.

So.....anyone looking forward to the 3rd episode tonight? I'm really starting to like this show.

I thought this scene from last week was hilarious when Lt. Hunt and Sam got into the fight at the hospital.

Oops! Thanks for straightening me out, halfrek, and moving my post from the other thread. My bad!

I haven't seen the UK version of this show...... just learned that there was an UK version yesterday. It's actually one of the new shows this season that I look forward to watching. Yeah, I like it but I'm not sure it will last....doesn't seem like many people are watching it.

:wavey: I'm watching it and I'm with you, seaquelost
it's one of the few new shows that I look forward to as well

I hope it makes the cut. Last night's numbers aren't out yet, but last week it didn't do so hot......8.47 million viewers - which, by itself doesn't seem so bad, except that that number dipped by a significant 2.86 million viewers from the week before (11.33 to 8.47 million). Sure hope it didn't dip so significantly this week, or we could see a quick pull by the network :ermm:

you are welcome. :)

i suppose, not having the UK version to compare it to, this show is okay. perhaps that is why i just don't care for it. it just doesn't seem that much of the original translated very well. it is just limited or something. though it is possible that they will take the show to an entirely different ending.

just for argument sake, the UK version was only 6 eppys per season. so instead of really dragging out the plot, they were able to progress things faster and end up in a satisfying although maddening end to the season. not sure how they will do that.

FWIW, i am watching it. not that my viewing helps the ratings at all. ;) i wonder what made it drop so much from pilot to second eppy? i did not see the 2nd eppy so i can't comment. perhaps it was too difficult for people to watch b/c all the "cop shows" from the 70's were so politically correct and didn't have derogatory remarks or excess violence in its characters. this show is definitely NOT your mom or dad's 70's cop show. :71:

back to the UK version: i admit that it did take me a bit to get used to the racism and sexism and just rude, unlikeable characters...but by the end, i found that Gene Hunt was one of my fav characters. go figure. ;) i am not sure i will be able to say that of the Kietel version of Gene.

sorry to go on...shutting up now. ;)

I'm so excited that there are others watching and posting about this show! It really does point out how much things have changed since 1973 and how much remains the same.
I didn't get to watch the 2nd episode until yesterday afternoon and that was beginning of me starting to like Gene - a little. LOVED the hospital "slap fight" as well!! I think I'm going to like Windy as well.
Last night's episode really (and finally) gave us an idea of where this show is going - real/unreal. I thought it was about time he realized that he was living in the city at this time and he might should try to find himself within that time.It broke my heart when he saw himself with his dad. It seems he needs to remember as much as he can about how things were then even as a child.
It's funny how he seemed such a "tough guy" in 2008 and such a softy in 1973. A lesson for us all, maybe??!
I swear I knew some guys who looked exactly like Michael Imperioli back in the day!!

I'm watching the show and I find it entertaining, I especially love the music. I just recently found out that there was a UK version, I haven't seen that version but so far I do like the US version. I just hope that they don't cancel it.

I hope they don't either. I haven't seen the UK version so I don't have anything to compare it too so I'm able to enjoy it on its own merits.

I've only seen the first and third episodes and have enjoyed them. Didn't see the original. I do wonder how long they can keep this premise up for though.

Well, since they've shown him "seeing" Maya in the reflection of the glass door at the station house, this gives me a little more faith that this can last a while longer than I initially thought. Another thing I hope they do is give us some idea what is causing him to fall back to this time in his life. Another thing I would really llike to see is a clue to how it happened. Hopefully, these things have been mapped out in a cohesive and understandable way.

I COULDN'T AGREE WITH YOU MORE! You are so right on with everything you said.
I watch the new show just because I want that feeling of the original but I always go away unsatisfied:biggrin: Maybe if David E. Kelly had seen it all the way through it may have been better, he does do good shows.

Whoopi was great last week......very funkified, lol

I'm still really enjoying this show
whether it's cause I never saw the original so I have no frame of reference or not,
still find it great

Imperioli is really good and Keitel, well....when isn't he awesome?
