The avatars will come back soon. :) Right now the server is running a but high so I turned off a few features until it goes back to normal. (better lose a few minor features than the whole board go down :) )

For right now, I have the avatars turned off. I start turning of features when the server load gets too high. (better lose avatars and spell check for a few minutes than the whole board) Once the load drops back to normal, I will turn them back on. :)
