This episode was the best.... I had a total revlation about Widmore. It's been year since I visited this site, and it looks different. Where can I post theories without "spoiling" anything for anyone? Is it ok to post here?

Forgive me if others have posted this theory, but my revelation came to me during this specific episode, and I haven't read through the threads in over a year. I think that Widmore is the captain of the Black Rock and somehow left the island, and like Jack in flash forwards is trying to get back to the island....WIdmore has been trying to get back as well. I think something has made him "immortal" or at least unable to be killed by Ben. When Ben shows up in his bedroom Widmore says, "Are you here to kill me?" and Ben replies, "We both know I can't do that."

Widmore also bought the first mate's journal at the auction.

Based on what I've seen to this point, my theory is that there was a mutiny on board the Black Rock and Richard may have been WIdmore's first mate. Richard was part of the mutiny and ended up staying on the island. He brought Ben to his side and that is why Ben thinks he is part of the good guys. The guys protecting the island from Widmore, the money hungry pirate captain.

I thought Magnus Hanso was the captain of the Black Rock. Widmore could have been onboard with Richard, and Abaddon could have been one of the slaves.
