So, I was just thinking about this....
would Claire's baby possibly be the first child born on the island? It seems like everyone else landed there because of some sort of wreck or crash.
And if that holds true, could that maybe explain why the child would be of great importance to "the island" or "the others?"

Certainly! Or perhaps "Alex" (whom I think is Ethan) is the first born on the island and since he has the "island madness" he believes that Claire's child should be raised by he and the others.

I'm not sure if this is what you meant Sherry but one of the theoriesconecting it to the stand was a baby that was born and survived after a horrible plague. Everyone thought it would bring about a cure. Maybe the others are sick and want the baby for the same reasons? They might think the baby will have some antibodies or other defense against the sickness and save them?
Anyways, that's the theory I have read around here and some other boards. I just started reading the stand on Monday so I'm not really sure about the baby, although there is one pregnant girl in there that hasn't gotten sick yet ...so I'm pretty sure it's true.
Could Ethan's motives be good? He told Jack that he would kill one of them if he didn't stop following him. Why not just kill Jack? Maybe he just wants to save his people and isn't really evil at all? Just freaky looking! :lol2:

You'll enjoy the Stand...its a great book...but I think that if they have an island sickness that makes them crazy, they would, of course, not realize they were crazy and not consider themselves sick. Atleast that's how I look at it.

But if 'Alex' was born on the island, we can assume that he's only around 16 years old (if it's Danielle's 'child'), right, since that's how long Danielle has been there? And Ethan looked much older than that - - in fact, he looks far too old to be Danielle's son at all - - she looked to be in her 40s, and Ethan in his mid-to-late 30s, at least...
And I'm not convinced that "Alex" is a human - - A.L.E.X. could stand for something else, perhaps a virus or 'miracle cure' or something else that Danielle and the science team had created...

Sayid calculated the transmission was going on for 16 years based on the number of iterations of the transmission, correct? If so Danielle and the others could have been on the island longer than the 16 years that the transmission has been running. Perhaps it took them 5-10 years to get the transmission running. That would put Alex (if Alex is human) early to mid 20's.
The transmission mentions "it has killed them all". So this transmission was recorded after everyone was sick and killed. You would need to factor in this time also if the iteration number on the transmission would reset when a new message is recorded/sent.
When Sayid mentioned the 16 years to Danielle her reply was something like "has it been that long?". She obviously and understandably has lost track of the time she has been there.

Yeah...I was just throwing that random thought out there...That's the fun in theorizing, making a guess and learning how close (or far) you were from the truth...

Someone on another board put this thought in my head, and I keep coming back to it. Ethan fROMe in the book by that name married an older woman (though he wants the young one) so this Ethan, while too old to be a 16 yr old Alex... what if Ethan is Danielle's "husband" that she thought she killed, and he wants Claire's baby to give Danielle another one (to replace the mysteriously missing Alex)?

All this First Baby speculation about Alex and/or Claire assumes the couple whose bodies Jack found in the cave never had a baby. It also assumes there were not other survivors capable of reproducing from the ship Danille was on, not to mention assuming there have been no other crashes/wrecks depositing survivors that we have not seen yet.
Over all I like the theory that Ethan either wants to get a new baby for Danille. But the field is wide open at the moment.

First born? Isn't it alittle early to be wondering about that yet?
P.s. Sleestak, your avie scared me! I think I will have nightmares of buggish eyed parrots tonight!
