This occured to me while posting in the S5 thread The impact of Locke meeting Ethan? http://forum.thefuselage.com/showthread.php?t=105586

Could it be that the people on the Jacob's list are the Lefties that could have been seen by the Others on the Island but not in their proper timelines??? John Locke, Juliet Burke, James Ford, Miles Straum, Charlotte Lewis, Daniel Faraday, Rose and Bernard? Let's not forget Walt! If any of the above people ever met one of the Others while time shifting, (except for Locke who already did.) and their names were reported to Richard Alpert...Wouldn't he keep a list of those names? And could it be known as Jacob's list? Ok, Locke meets Ethan in the 90's, and even though it's for a matter of seconds, he blurts out Ben's name and mentions he's their newly appointed leader...Results?

John Locke was followed from birth by Richard Alpert. We know Matthew Abaddon spoke to him as an adult. Talk that resulted in John going to Australia, and ultimately end up on the Island. Richard tried to recruit Locke in the 70's for Mittlelos Science Camp. Chose to stay.

Juliet Burke was also recruited by Richard Alpert. She voluntarily comes, and choses to stay and wait for the zodiac. Did Richard follow Juliet's life evolution as he did for Locke? Did she ever encounter Matthew off Island?

Miles, Dan and Charlotte. All were recruited by Matthew Abaddon. Miles could be the son of Dr Chang. Can we agree Charlotte was most likely born on craphole? Dan, telling Desmond to go find his mother at Oxford...Watch it be Mrs Hawkins, who also seems to be good in mathematics. Miles and Charlotte chose to stay on the Island. Dan is unwittingly caught inside the vicinity of the Island's move.

Sawyer. Now there's a childhood backstory that's itching to be told. Who took custody of James after his parent's deaths? Where did he go live? Sawyer's early childhood is similar to Locke's, being orphaned at a young age. He chose to stay in dramatic fashion. I wonder if James was also a bright student like John was.

Rose & Bernard...The odd couple. Against all odds, they survived all of the Island's shenanigans...and are still time trippin' with the above gang. I don't know what to make of them at all...and they didn't chose to stay did they? They were waiting for the zodiac to return.

The Anomaly, Walter Loyd. Even though there is no proof he was ever on the Island before the crash of F815, there is evidence of the possibility. First is Bea Klugh's comment to Michael about Walt in the S3 episode Three minutes, I underlined the pertinent parts: MS. KLUGH: Did he have any illnesses growing up? Headaches? Fainting spells? MICHAEL: What? No! I don't -- I wasn't there. He was half way around the world. Why are you asking me all these questions?
MS. KLUGH: Did Walt ever appear in a place he wasn't supposed to be? You say he was half way around the world -- did you see him? Same symptoms as Desmond when his consciousness was TT and he appeared in a "when" he wasn't supposed to be. Now I thought she could have been making a reference to the Shannon appearance. But with the recent developments, could Walt have appeared on the Island, on his own to...Richard Alpert or worst, Ben? Why would the Others have the need to kidnap him, and with such deadly force? Walter also wanted to stay on the Island, setting the raft on fire. But then, something happened* and he chose to leave. *I'll have to re watch to see what could have made Walter change his mind about leaving on the raft.

Think those are the ones? Or are there more names on the list if ever the O6 return?

According to Mikhail, Locke wasn't on the list though...

My current theory states that those on Jacob's list are the ones who are NOT a threat to world history if they time travel. They can be enrolled as 'others' to work as guardians of the Island and 'time keepers' or time cops or course correctors making sure nobody messes around with the original timeline.
Those losties left on the island are not on Jacob's list because they CAN change the past (even when Daniel says it's only Desmond). The important or special people are not the ones who CAN change the past (majority), but those who CAN'T (minority).

Nice to see you Fierro! What thread of yours is that?

I don't know about John and the List, or if Mikael was being coy to deceive Sayid and Kate. If I remember correctly, he was about to blurt out Locke was paralyzed before Rousseau cut him off.

The list could be to Richard what the compass he gave Locke will be to him when they meet in the past, know what I mean? Except that for Richard, it's for future arrivals. It's up for debate!
