Merch 02-11-2009, 10:03 PM Absolutely fantastic, especially coming on the heels of last weeks slump of an episode. Ending was great...looking forward to the re-watch already.
Wow.
brermike 02-11-2009, 10:09 PM Really great. I loved how much screen time Jin received and his witnessing two key moments in Rousseau's story line. I'm sure we well see more of her at some point.
I love how the time jumps are in essence serving as a flashback of sorts for the island and its own history. Seeing smokey near the temple, the ancient well, and getting Charlotte's story were quite a treat. I was bummed Charlotte died but maybe we will see her character as a little girl down the road. Also, someone had to die from the flashes for it to truly be a deadly event :)
I am starting to think (and maybe it was obvious before) that Christian Shepard is the big bad. It seems like he was trying to get Locke off the island and to not be the new leader. I'm interested to see where this goes.
I've quite excited to see how the O6 make it back and the Jeremy Bentham storyline over the next couple weeks. It continues to be a great season and each week, I get more and more pumped!
TheDome 02-11-2009, 10:12 PM Easily the best episode of the season thus far. Kitsis and Horowitz wrote a great episode, and the actors killed it.
erin1679 02-11-2009, 10:12 PM Great, great episode, I was squealing through most of it. I can't wait to watch it again tomorrow after work :)
Islandtracker 02-11-2009, 10:16 PM Amazing episode.
I loved Jin and Sun's story connecting to Daniel Rossue and Robert's story.
I loved how protective of Kate Jack was when he was taking to Sun about Ben.
I loved the whole Sawyer and Juliet dynamic. I still hope it turns romantic soon.
Charolette dying on Daniel was sad.
The Chrisitan and Locke scene was made of win.
I missed papa Shepard.
I can't wait for next week with the promo of....
Jack and Kate kissing and returning to the island together! :jump:
maxaholic 02-11-2009, 10:25 PM I can't wait for next week with the promo of....
Jack and Kate kissing and returning to the island together! :jump:
me too IT.:happy_bounce:
it was a fantastic episode. the best yet. every scene was great. jin did a great job. i felt so sorry for him and his reunion with sawyer made me cry. i didn't even care for charlotte in the beginning and now that's she's grown on me, she's gone. that made me sad too. she also freaked me out when she was gibbering at jin.
the french backstory was great. poor danielle. she has no idea what's ahead of her.
papa shepard scared me a little too. i had to cover my eyes. i thought sasquatch was coming out of the shadows. i didn't know how much i missed him til he appeared.
hmmmmm....ben wasn't suppose to move the island, locke was.. very interesting.
what is ben up to.
and i hope poor desmond doesn't get dragged into all of this going back to the island. leave him, penny and charlie alone!
i'll think of more later, but his was by far, the best. so good that it reminds me of season one!!:eek2:
KRANG 02-11-2009, 10:26 PM Loved the episode. Ben's slowly convincing me he is one of the good guys ! But I thought the Orchid was "deep" as Ben put it, Locke went down 10 feet to get to the donkey wheel, before him and Ben took a 20 minute elevator ride to get to it. Otherwise great episode.
BecauseYouLeft 02-11-2009, 10:27 PM Without a doubt the best episode of the season. It was wonderful to finally see Danielle and what happened to her. I wish we knew exactly what happened to those guys after they went down the hole. "The sickness".
Jin and Sawyer's adorable hug...need a gif of that asap :P
So we know in a future episode Daniel will go back in time to the dharma days and warn Charlotte that she will die if she comes back. I'm wondering why he'd do that if he knows you can't change what has happened.
I don't trust Christian as far as I can throw him.
EkoJunior 02-11-2009, 10:28 PM This'll be one of those episodes I go back and watch again and again - not because I may have missed something, but because it's just that darn good!
100%
Without a doubt the best episode of the season.
Could not agree more.
KDLOST 02-11-2009, 10:35 PM it was dark, creepy, and wonderful!!
workingmom 02-11-2009, 10:55 PM Great episode! Jin was just magnificent throughout - keeping Danielle from following her comrades into the evil temple because of her baby (protecting someone else's baby since he couldn't protect his own), his selflessness in wanting Sun not to come back. How hard it must have been for him to say "Tell her I'm dead."
Locke was also great, and I don't usually say that much. He promised Jin and it looks like he kept that promise even though it went against his most passionate mission - saving the island. It was a nice reprise to see Locke be the one to go first into the dangerous unknown instead of letting someone else do it, like he had Kate go into the hatch first or Boone go up to the plane.
"I guess that's why they call it sacrifice." Yep, John, you are finally the sacrifice the island demanded. And he stepped up and said "I'm ready." Bravo.
So Jin's adventures pretty much confirmed Danielle's story that she killed her party and took the firing pin out of Robert's rifle.
lostnthesoutheast 02-11-2009, 10:57 PM it has been a long time since we have had a Lost episode that was that good. I loved, loved, loved it. Infact I loved it so much that I didn't even mind the boring O6 parts because they gave me a chance to catch my breath!
galaxygirl 02-11-2009, 11:04 PM Loved, loved, loved it. This whole season has been good and this has been the best episode so far.
Darbi 02-11-2009, 11:17 PM Boy, they sure didn't pull any punches this episode. What a fantastic episode! I love the Kwons, and even through time and space, their love for one another is still as strong and moving as its always been. I can't wait until they are reunited.
adam8023 02-12-2009, 12:23 AM Really good episode despite some characters not being featured so much.
lundi 02-12-2009, 12:41 AM I was really, really impressed with the actress who played Charlotte. Her dying and hallucinating scenes were terrific.. it really showed what a talent she really is. bravo!
adam8023 02-12-2009, 01:12 AM ^^Even though I wasn't a fan of the character, I'll give her that.:)
iameve 02-12-2009, 01:33 AM wowwowowowowowowwwwwoow! This episode was the best of the season,so far, imo. I loved it. I love being spoiler free.. the experience has been much better!
donofthedead 02-12-2009, 01:34 AM Definitely going to miss Charlotte. What an interesting speech she gave! I have to say I'm a little confused as to why Sawyer got a nosebleed and Locke didn't! Should I even be reading into that?
e-lls 02-12-2009, 03:20 AM I literally had goosebumps. Finally some payoff for our years of patience!!!
driveshaft76 02-12-2009, 08:30 AM Great episode after the stinker last week. I would have liked to have seen more of what happened with Danielle and her team, but can live without it.
boncam 02-12-2009, 08:39 AM I enjoy watching the island scenes. Seeing Des at the church was great.
lostmoon 02-12-2009, 08:40 AM Oh...the flashes...
Fantastic episode!!! My nose is bleeding already!
it was dark, creepy, and wonderful!!
The Charlotte last scenes were really creepy! The moment that she says "This place is DEATH" I had another nose bleed.
Bye Charlotte:rip:
10/10
Melikon 02-12-2009, 09:11 AM Jin finally gets some screentime!!!
Of course now, it doesn't make any sense that Rousseau didn't recognize Jin when she visited the Losties camp. How could you forget what a man that vanished in front of your own eyes looked like?
prospero 02-12-2009, 09:32 AM Loved it. Hate commercials; need more show!!!
Meggerhun 02-12-2009, 09:58 AM Favorite moments:
Jin and Sawyer.
Ben's face when Des says "Faraday's mum"
Sawyer pulling at the rope in the dirt, he really was holding on for dear life! Awww!
Seeing the wheel sputtering. No wonder they were skipping back and forth without much rhyme or reason.
jjlobban 02-12-2009, 12:04 PM Really fantastic episode, every episode this season has been brilliant but this one took the biscuit for me.
Really loved every minute and watched it again straight after!
Lobby 02-12-2009, 02:08 PM We finally saw the Temple! We were introduced to the Well. Saw Smokey in stalking mode. Watched Danielle kill her husband/lover/whatever. He looked to be possessed, Danielle thought he was sick. Smoky lives near the Temple!! Charlotte's revelations, Charlotte's death. We saw angry Ben. Desmond returns. We found out Faraday's mother is Eloise Hawking. Ben found that out at the same time and didn't look happy. So much in such a short time yet it wasn't enough.
Trevski 02-12-2009, 06:50 PM This series is turning out to be so good I'm wondering how on earth they're going to have an end of season episode to trump the others. Its just revelations and good old Lost confusion galore, and this episode was another bit of gold dust. Just brilliant.
entil2001 02-12-2009, 07:42 PM Review: Lost 5.5: "This Place is Death" (http://entil2001.com/series/lost/season5/lost5-5.html)
Overall, this episode restored the balance between emphasis on plot and character, even if the structure is less obvious than in past seasons. A lot happens along the way, and the stakes are raised in some surprising ways. The season is progressing at a blistering pace; if there was one complaint to make, it's how little time they get to spend on eras that deserve a lot more attention.
Yrifa 02-13-2009, 09:50 AM Great episode. Even a bit better than Jughead (but with less Desmond :undecide:).
dizzyheaded 02-13-2009, 01:27 PM Loved it, too! They have only a season and a half to explain things and have it all make sense and I see that it is beginning. Of course the "making sense" part is in that "LOST" kinda way that only us fans can understand...sort of...
MysteryFan 02-13-2009, 08:17 PM I just loved watching Jin. He'd only been missing from the show for three eps I think, but since we didn't know all these months if he'd died -- it sure seemed a lot longer. This was a great payback to fans, to give us so much great stuff from DDK.
Gidget Girl 02-14-2009, 02:39 PM Late to comment but I personally think this was the best episode yet. Seriously, it had everything. Jughead comes a close second!
Danelectro 02-14-2009, 04:10 PM I just rewatched it and also think that this has perhaps been the best episode so far. I even enjoyed most of the scenes offisland, but I'm glad that they were quite short unlike in The Little Prince which I also rewatched today but am not so happy with it as I was when I watched it the first time.
Kaïsa 02-16-2009, 05:09 AM This was the best episode of season 5 so far, great stuff. The beginning with Jin and the french group was pure gold. So the monster protects the temple, and can change people into "monsters" who want to kill their baby mothers? I'm starting to think that the temple is the most important place on the Island. I liked Charlotte and was sad to see her go, but at least she had a beautiful AND surpising death scene. And John Locke was awesome in this ep.
evanesco75 02-16-2009, 05:25 AM Fantastic episode! Best of the Season, I thought, followed closely by Jughead and BYL. There was so much stuff packed in here, and so many amazing monents!
Jin was just incredible; I loved seeing him reunite with Sawyer (what a moment!); loved his fierce protectiveness over Sun and the fact that he's willing to do anything to keep her safe, so perfectly mirrored by Sun's instant agreement to go back for his sake. This is what makes LOST so good. This is such a real, deep relationship, with all its flaws, high and low points, and the enduring love we've always seen.
Locke stepping up: wonderful. That scene with Christian where he says he's 'ready'... just, wow! I was speechless with emotion there. TOQ continues to floor me with his acting.
Des, seeing Eloise and realizing she was the one who 'course corrected' him before...
Ben telling Jack and Sun he's done so much to keep them safe.. I'm betting he isn't lying this time.
Sawyer's desperation when Locke vanishes into the ground, and how he tries to dig him up... chilling, heartbreaking stuff.
Jack's apparent 'backseat' role thus far... methinks he's got something up his sleeve!
Poor Charlotte! I was genuinely sorry to see her go, although if there's a choice, I'd rather her than our original Losties and even Juliet. Still, she had a great last scene, I thought. Her recognition of Daniel was another chilling moment.
Christian telling Locke to say hello to his son.. I only wish he'd named him! Still..
All in all, I loved this episode, and can't wait for more!
Burnt Sienna 02-17-2009, 11:02 AM More Jin than we've seen in the past four seasons...I loved it!!
Who'd ever think that Rousseau's & Jin's paths would ever cross?! Genious.
