I have a question about the flashes.
If the sky turns white every time they jump through time, wouldn't Claire and Kate and past John Locke (and everyone else, for that matter) notice something was up when Sawyer, Juliet, present Locke & co. jump into their time and jump out of it? Wouldn't they have seen the sky turn white in the middle of the night?
Is this a goof? Or are the flashes only visible to the time travelers?

Pretty sure it's just the time travellers. At least it didn't really seem to affect Ethan when he had the gun on Locke in "Because You Left." I don't think it bothered any of the "others" in Jughead either.

I don't think this is a good explanation. unless two environments (Kate-Claire 2004 original and Sawyer time traveller) are somehow isolated. But this doesn't seem to be the case. Kate just like Desmond should've woken up with the message "you've got a new memory for 2004"

No, I don't think so, because Kate and Claire never noticed that they were being watched. So far, I've seen nothing to conflict with what hambone15 is saying. Maybe with more episodes we'll get a more definitive answer.

We have seen these flashes in earlier season episodes. It has also been discussed on www.Lostisagame.com (http://www.Lostisagame.com)
A couple of instances/examples that I can quickly remember are:
Kate and Juliette, handcuffed together and trying to escape smoky - there are definite flashes there when they are hiding in the trees
One of the golf games/tournaments
I remember them being brought up before, but now that we know what they are, it seems all the more relelvant.
Does anyone remember any more of these?

The flashes with Juliet and Kate were caused by the monster, like when the monster was looking at Eko and memories of Ekos past could be seen flashing inside the monsters head. I dont remember anything at one of the golf games.
I think only the time travelers see them.
That is why, when Locke was talking to Richard in 1954, and the sky started to light up and John got all worried, Richard looked confuse because he didn't know what John was getting upset about. And then from Richards point of view, Locke would have simply disappeared.
