Just thought I'd share this. Last year, I picked up the book "Foucalt's Pendulum" by Umberto Eco and I noticed that it had a lot of things in common with the show, such as:

1. Their version of the Island

"The main plot of the novel Foucault's Pendulum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foucault%27s_Pendulum) by Umberto Eco (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umberto_Eco) revolves around search of the Ombilicus Mundi (Latin: The Navel of the World), the mystic Center of The Earth which is supposed to be a certain point from where a person could control the energies and shapes of the earth thus reforming it at will. The novel takes this even further by suggesting that monuments like the Eiffel Tower (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eiffel_Tower) are nothing more than giant antennae (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antenna_%28radio%29) to catalyze these energies"

2. Their version of Richard Alpert:

Aglič - who claims to be the Count of St. Germain (fl. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floruit) 1710–1784) has been variously described as a courtier (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Courtier), adventurer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adventurer), charlatan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlatan), inventor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inventor), alchemist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alchemy), pianist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pianist), violinist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Violin) and amateur composer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composer), but is best known as a recurring figure in the stories of several strands of occultism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occult) – particularly those connected to Theosophy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theosophy), where he is also referred to as the Master Rakoczi or the Master R and credited with near god-like powers and longevity.

3. Their version of DHARMA

"The Plan" evolves slowly, but the final version involves the Knights Templar's coming into possession of an ancient secret knowledge of energy flows called telluric currents (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telluric_current) during the Crusades (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crusade). The original Knights Templar organization is destroyed after the execution of Jacques de Molay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques_de_Molay), but the members split into independent cells located in several corners of Europe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Europe) and the Middle East (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middle_East). As in Ardenti's original theory, each cell is given part of the Templar "Plan" and information about the secret discovery. They are to meet periodically at different locations to share sections of the Plan, gradually reconstructing the original. Then they will reunite and take over the world using the power of the telluric currents. The crucial instruments involved in their plan are a special map and the Foucault pendulum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foucault_pendulum).
