When Michael returned from the island he could not kill himself. Is this a result of Daniel's rule that things cannot change? This would mean that the events on the freighter had already happened and Michael had gone back for another pass through the time loop. He could not kill himself because he already had established a timeline where he lived long enough to get on the freighter. Does this make sense?
