View Full Version : Locke found standing in the ocean
bawstngrl 02-28-2009, 09:27 AM Anyone else think it weird that Locke was "found" standing in the ocean with his suit on?
Doesn't that sort of parallel Chrsitian being seen in the water shortly after the crash in his burial suit???
There must be a significance
boncam 02-28-2009, 09:43 AM A sign of rebirth.

Even salt water, apparently. I wonder if Locke will need to eat and drink to stay alive now that he's resurrected. Is he truly flesh and blood back to life? Will he age?
Christian would not help John get to the Donkey Wheel, was that because of a limitation of his resurrection? Will Locke be able to physically interact with those others that crashed on the plane??
I think we have a lot to learn about what Locke will be able to do now. Perhaps he just needs to concentrate hard enough.
Saukkomies 02-28-2009, 11:38 AM I enjoyed the comparison between the two scenes where we see Locke in the pilot episode calmly standing on the beach, eating an orange (http://gallery.lost-media.com/displayimage.php?pid=14127&fullsize=1) - and the scene where he's calmly standing on the beach, eating a mango (http://gallery.lost-media.com/displayimage.php?pid=124586&fullsize=1). In both scenes a female was looking at him in a rather perplexed way - in the pilot episode it was Kate (http://gallery.lost-media.com/displayimage.php?pid=14125&fullsize=1), and in this week's it was Ilana (http://gallery.lost-media.com/displayimage.php?pid=124591&fullsize=1).

Nice comparison, think it means anything? Think there's some Kate/Ilana parallel or the writers just playing with imagery?

LOL! Hey, maybe the mango represents resurrection in an obscure Pacific Micronesian island culture... :)

LMAO maybe
Lavender 02-28-2009, 12:55 PM I thought it was interesting (sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere) that when we were first about to see who they found in the suit, the camera panned around to show him (before they showed that it was Locke) sitting wrapped in a towel with a sun on it. Symbolically, the sun represents hope, rebirth and is the bringer of light. Jesus is often associated with the sun... I'll have to rewatch Fire + Water now to see if there is anything that links to the symbolism...

I suppose that the standard operating procedure whenever someone gets resurrected from the dead is that all broken bones and various other physical ailments get healed as part of the basic package deal.

I think Christian couldn't help with the Wheel because, if he didn't stay behind the pillar, he'd flash off the island with Locke.
pibbsneaker 03-03-2009, 07:11 AM Finding him standing in the ocean is a bit more stranger (and therefore cooler) than finding him standing on the beach.
OTsteve 03-03-2009, 08:18 AM It's basic baptism symbolism.
In many forms of Protestant Christianity baptism represents the burial of the "old man born of Adam" (buried in the water) and the rebirth of the "new man born of Christ" (who comes out of the water).
