Hello - I'm looking for everyone's thoughts on this..
Who are the bad guys here? Throughout the show we have been led to believe that the Others are bad, they steal people, they brainwash people, they blow stuff up, they kidnapped Walt, and shot Sawyer.. Now we have the DI, they come to the island with all their modern technology, they build houses on the island and they conduct tests on animals, people, the island. They also have a station which holds poisonus gases.. Why do they have this? What would they need it for?? Who are the DI?
I can understand the Hostiles / Other's point they are there to protect the island and these people show up and in a way stir the pot... They have a sonic fence to keep things out, Horace has a wall in his house ( as we seen Ben do and Ben does have his house) to conjure the smoke monster- why would he need it??? there is something up with the DI, Horace, Amy, the Dr., kinda creep me out!!!!!!!!!! More so then Ben does :)

I am going forward with the idea of the Others/Hostiles bad and DI good. Why? Becasue, we are through the looking glass here people...white is black and black is white.

My guess is they're both bad.

Richard and the natives are good because it is their island, and they are protecting it. We saw them in 1954, they were protecting it from the H-bombers. Richard told Daniel that they didn't start the fighting. The US army did.
Richard:You come to our island to run your tests, you fire on us, and what, you expect us not to defend ourselves?
He also told Dan that they gave them(army) the opportunity to leave the island peacefully. They weren't willing to do that, so he was forced to kill them.

Remember what Tom said to Jack in The Hunting Party:
Tom: ... Tell me, you go over a man's house for the first time, do you take off your shoes? Do you put your feet up on his coffee table? Do you walk in the kitchen, eat food that doesn't belong to you? [he looks at Locke] Open the door to rooms you got no business opening? You know, somebody a whole lot smarter than anybody here once said: "Since the dawn of our species man's been blessed with curiosity." You know the other one about curiosity don't you, Jack? This is not your island. This is our island. And the only reason you're living on it is because we let you live on it.

The DI arrived and just took over with their gas station, heavy security etc. The Others probably just let the DI stay there, hence the truce. The DI was on the island to save the world. The Barracks video also said that the mission of the Initiative on the Island was to study its unique properties for the betterment of mankind and advancement of world peace. The alleged purpose of the Initiative, according to the Swan Orientation film, was to create "a large-scale communal research compound where scientists and free-thinkers from around the globe could pursue research in meteorolgy, psychology, parapsychology, zoology, electromagnetism..." I dont think the Others were happy about the DI constantly bringing in new recruits. Word would spread about the island's unique properties. Someone would want to exlpoit it.

There are some Others that are bad like Pickett and those 2 guys who killed Paul and took a shot at James.

My guess is they're both bad.

Widmore: Doesn't want to share with Ben? Why? Ben seeing dead mother on the Island might be a clue. :biggrin:

It looks to me as though the original inhabitants are fighting over who get control of the Island and time is the essence.

Who started this fight? Perhaps two very bored people, with the gift of eternal life, decided to start a chess game? Only the chess pieces can decide for themselves. Even change sides! ;)
