Another Other 03-19-2009, 04:56 PM First, take a look at the picture Christian shows Sun:

Keep your eye on the face third from the right that's behind the dark-haired lady. Looking closely? Good... now check this out...

Voila! Magical disappearing people!
So, what's up with that?
RAD24 03-19-2009, 04:59 PM Wow, I didn't even see that before, that's very strange
I also thought that Hurley turned his head when the flash went off (to say "Nama-what?), but in the picture he is looking ahead. Although, I could just be wrong about that one
iwonder 03-19-2009, 05:02 PM We've discussed this in another thread... all it is is a short guy behind a girl.. in the screen grab you can see his foot behind her calf and maybe a bit of his leg between her knees. If you simply rewatch the video of that scene you'll see that he's around and rocks back and forth on his feet, taking him in and out of view... It's a curse that short folk always have to endure in group shots... but the show made sure he showed up in the still photo that they framed... someone just grabbed a screen shot when he wasn't fully visible.
kajah 03-19-2009, 05:04 PM Um ... continuity/prop error. Otherwise, my head will explode :)
However, the second/real live picture is at a slightly different angle. I think I see some feet at the bottom that probably belong to the disappearing guy. he's just hidden behind brunette girl.
tajtric 03-19-2009, 05:04 PM there are apparently many difference in the pictures. For instance toothy smiles vs. closed smiles vs. no smiles at all. So is it two different pics on purpose or just a production error that means nothing?

Yeah, for example look at the angle of Kate's head, and Jack's mouth in both shots
iwonder 03-19-2009, 05:17 PM In the television episode we did not see the live photograph, they jumped back and forth between 77 and the scene with Christian/Sun/Frank... Without continuous video footage and without the video camera and the (photo) camera being the same, they are taken from a different spot and won't synch up perfectly. What you guys are comparing is a framed photograph and a screen grab from a video reel that was not the source for the photo even though it was in the same scene. In all likelihood, Lost reshot the scene a few times and picked the best photo and the best video reel, but they didn't synch exactly so they just made sure not to show a continuous video from when they stood for the photo until when they disbanded.... and who takes only a single shot of a group? If this were real life I'm sure they'd have taken at least 2 shots to be sure they didn't have anyone out of the shot (like the short guy).
bringerofchill 03-19-2009, 05:38 PM I don't think he's short enough to be totally blocked out by the lady standing in front of him. If you compare his height to the guy standing to the right of him, it's about half a heads length. And if you compare the height of the guy on the right to the girl that would be blocking the missing person, she is close to a full head length shorter. So the "missing" guy is taller then the lady in front, we should still see the top of his head.

No. I definitely see the guy's foot on the ground behind the woman. He's short and blocked.
iwonder 03-19-2009, 05:44 PM Watch the scene and you'll see him rocking on his feet and getting obscured by her a tiny bit after the photo would have been taken. He doesn't necessarily have to be standing perfectly still and straight at all times and move himself so that he's visible from one regular camera and one video camera at the same moment, etc. People shift their weight, scratch and elbow, lean off to the side to cough, etc. And a camera or video camera that isn't held above the heads of people in the front row is at a perspective where it's easy to have people in back become obscured. Please just play back the scene on your tv or computer and you'll see that he does get fully obscured on top and then visible again in a moment of continuous video footage. It's nothing magical at all.
NotAnOther89 03-19-2009, 05:48 PM This is not anything significant or is it an error
They probably did not take the actual picture while they were filming the picture being taken, plus you can see part of that mans foot behind the girl, The picture is jsut taken from a slightly different angle/the guy moved over a little
MOONLIGHT SERENADE 03-19-2009, 06:03 PM It kinda does look like he is missing, but either way, the first picture has 16 people in it, and if the guy is missing then their would be 15 people, so the numbers are in play.
ozieozwall 03-19-2009, 08:40 PM Gosh I was thinking Jin was not in the photo .....
Mr. Find 03-20-2009, 10:49 AM 15 people without him. 16 people with him.
I think the producers were just having a little fun, but who knows really.
WhtTornado 03-20-2009, 11:31 AM I am going to go out on a limb here.
In the pictures it's near impossible to see, however if you watch the episode again right after the picture is clicked and they start to move around they get a close up of Jack, and the guy standing to his left, please correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the guy Ben sent to watch over the Tailies when 815 crashed? (Goodwin I think is his name?)
May be way off here, but sure looked like him when I watched it again?
Pauly 03-20-2009, 11:32 AM Taken at a different angle that what was shown on the picture. Like people have said you can see a foot next to the dark haired lady and it is not the guy in the blue jumpsuit's. He's still there just at that angle you can't see him because the lady is covering his body lol
roadtozion 03-20-2009, 11:45 AM Gosh I was thinking Jin was not in the photo .....
me too.
Pauly 03-20-2009, 11:58 AM They're new recruits so none of them are exisiting dharma members.
lostoholic 03-20-2009, 12:14 PM That's really cool even if it doesn't mean anything! Poor short guy - too funny!
piperdox 03-20-2009, 04:55 PM You can see the guys shoe in both pics in the same position (half way up the girls calf). So he's definitely there in both, just obscured in one.
