i've looked over the episode thread for this topic, and although it is discussed a little throughout, i thought sayid needed his very own thread to defend his actions in shooting and trying to kill 12 year old ben.

when sawyer, horace and and radinsky took him to see "he's our you", oldhum, and holdum had given sayid the drug, while they were restraining him against the tree, these are the words oldhum said to sayid:

"don't worry, they're for your protection. there are side effects from what i'm giving you" also, "it's beyond your control, so fighting it is a poor use of your energies"

obviously, it is a very strong drug and he made the point of saying he should have given him a half dropper....nice!

my point is that sayid seemed still a little trippie when sawyer visited him in his cell and pleaded with him to escape. sayid was sure that little ben would reappear and get him out, and for some drug related reason, he had no qualms about killing a small boy. he has some horrible feelings for big ben, and he should. several of the losties would have liked to kill him as an adult. none would do it in a right mind to a small boy.

i just don't think they would have made these drug related comments if it wasn't foreshadowing. also,

my very good, smart friend, ladybirdkate, has posted on other threads that when little ben came with the sandwich and daddy dearest caught him in the act, snatching the tray from him and them slamming him against the bars, sayid jumped up from his cot and came face to face with roger. if there had been not bars, rog, dear, would have been toast! sayid would not kill a boy when he wanted so badly to defend him earlier.

talk amongst yourselves!

I agree. Sayid looked a bit too smiley and unconcerned (http://gallery.lost-media.com/displayimage.php?pid=126822&fullsize=1) in reaction to Sawyer telling him that the DI had just voted to kill him.

I think that Sayid has come to terms with killing Ben and saving himself, really, from any more torment caused by Ben. I think that he would die happy knowing he had saved another version of himself from that kind of torment.

I think Sayid was acting a little like Tom Cruise character in Minority report, he empathizes with Ben as a kid but "knowing" what he was about to became he thought he should kill him before.
I don't agree with what Sayid has done but that has always been his way of acting since the begining of the show....it's a little like Dexter you know he's killing "bad" people not only because someone has to do it (this is an excuse!) but because he has this need/revenge/hate in him. We saw him killing this chicken as a kid to "help" his brother...he was also "helping" Ben killing people for Widmore....but when it was finished he seemed so disapointed....i realy like Sayid but he's disturbed like Kate, Sawyer and Ben!!! These 3 people are always doing very questionable things for the "greater good"

I have long suspected that Ben had Nadia killed. There was something about that creepy smile that came over Ben's face, when he set in place the first hit of revenge for Sayid.

Maybe we will come to find a flashback will reveal Sayid's learning of Ben's involvement in Nadia's killing. If this is true, you understand his heart-ache and wanting revenge, yet nothing justifies killing a child!!!!!

Sayid could have helped Ben become a different person. Accept we have come to understand the future is set and can't be altered (according to Daniel). Yet sayid speaks of a purpose, which doesn't give you a feeling of revenge. I'm really disappointed in Sayid and his dark side. We all knew it was there, but not to that degree.

I thought it was obvious that Ben was involved in Nadia's death... Widmore wanted the six to go back to the island, why would he off Nadia?

Sayid could have helped Ben become a different person.

Could have? I think he just did.

Speak for yourself. Sayid has always been the one who saw what needed to be done and did it. His dark side is undeniable, but it's also what enables him to keep the rest of his crew safe when it comes times for the nastiness.

It was only Sayid himself who continued to believe that he had any last vestige of pure goodness in himself; and by finally letting go of this belief he could do the hardest thing he's ever had to do. It's not like he capped Ben and then smiled all big and walked off into the jungle, contentedly whistling a Jeronimo Jackson tune. He actually sacrificed what he thought was the last of his innocence to save everyone else from future Ben, which in itself still hints at an underlying morality, regardless of whether or not it jives with anyone's own personal values.

And I'm surprised that in this furor, no one is quoting the half-decade-old maxim about the torturer... Sayid is always right.

i love sayid. this episode was great. and it was very sad when he asked ben, what am i going to do now? ben has owned and used him. for whatever reason. we even had ben tell jack that he had someone outside of hurley's hospital watching over him. yet he told sayid that one of widmore's people were watching hurley. sayid killed the dude. who did he actually work for. i would think that ben used sayid for his own purposes, not to keep his friends safe.

i love ben too, only because he's so evil.

All I could think of was "don't eat the brown acid" However I was the one screaming for Sayid to put another one in his evil little head. :eek2: Going on the Ms Hawkings staiement I have to think this always happened and is the reason Ben "knows" that Sayid is a killer.
