View Full Version : Juliet- how "Other" is she
silveranswer 04-02-2009, 01:34 AM Tonight's episode makes me wonder how much of an "Other" Juliet is.
Maybe they brought her to help them, but didn't make her one of them?
And yet, she was one of them enough to face punishment via branding . . . . . and learn Latin . . and she knows that Richard can bring about or provide access to healing power. . . for a long time her character has driven me crazy, because she must know a lot about the others, but they never talk about it until some knowledge can conveniently solve a problem.
Yea but they say Loss of innocense, we don't even know what that means. The others could be the good guys for all we know.
Definition of innocence
1 a: freedom from guilt or sin through being unacquainted with evil
That could be why Juliet got branded, because they found her guilty of her crimes. Thus Jacob and the list and the chosen ones. So maybe being an other is good
sonotlost 04-02-2009, 01:49 AM i find it crazy that she went from a quiet, submissive, seemingly low self-esteem individual to the Juliet we know in three years. what was she doing learning latin and having an affair when she was suppose to be finding out why all the women were dying? i still dont trust her...
silveranswer 04-02-2009, 01:50 AM I was just saying that they probably wouldn't put her on trial and punish her if she weren't an initiated part of the group. I was listing evidence for here being a true other. . . I guess evidence of her not being a true other would be her determination to leave the island and belief that Ben would let her go. . . also, she was hired and brought there to do a job, so how awkward would it be for them to ask her to step into this temple . . .
agentalana 04-02-2009, 01:54 AM yeah good call... cause it was The Others (actually Richard himself) who recruited her and not Ben... what the heck does she know, and has her "innocence been lost" too? strange too how Richard deals with Sawyer and not her, surely he'd know her better... and clearly it's the Others who cannot carry baby's to term, cause the Dharma peeps seem to procreate just fine... the Others are definitely not human, anymore

Hmm that's interesting enough. So if you lose your innocense, does that make you evil? Because even if you don't trust Juliet it would be hard to make a case for her being evil when she's sacrificed herself, and her happiness on many occasions for the people she loves.
That does make sense that it's the other's who can't have babies and not everyone.
Still Juliet's character keeps getting more interesting with every episode, so it would appear she should have a flashback coming up soon or something.
dylan_1200 04-02-2009, 02:07 AM Agreed. I think we know now how different the "others" term applies. She remembered her sister in anycase, and if what happened to Alexs father is more or less what happens to others once theyre converted Juliet really shouldnt of cared anymore for her sister.
I think there is gonig to be a gray line though. I mean Alex was an other, but she certainly wasn't all othery. The loss of innocence I think is key and needs to be explained because that could simply mean that you are no longer wearing rose colored glasses so to speak., Juliet betrayed them, and left to go home, so she's definately got some sort of interesting story arc coming up hopefully before the end of the season or next.
razzie33 04-02-2009, 10:53 AM I was thinking the same thing too -
Juliet once again made me question exactly what she knows about the Others.......... she seemed to know that Richard can heal and save Ben - so is she keeping secrets still? I wonder how much she has even told Sawyer.
warmislandsun 04-02-2009, 11:00 AM I have never trusted Juliet and I still don't. I believe she loves James, but I also see her betraying him in the future.
Why didn't Ben take Alex's body to the temple?
the only reason I don't see Juliet betraying James is because every single thing she has done has been for the people that she loves. If there is anything at all consistant with her, it would be that.
My guess is that she has told James everything she knows about the others. They have went to great lengths to show those two don't seem to like to keep secrets from each other. If anything I think Juliet could leave to protect him, and there will be angst due to separation, but in the end he'll find out she did it for him, and she'll probably die for him. Sawyer and Juliet =Adam and Eve.
one black stone, and one whie stone
Who knows I'm just kinda guessing here.
