Why does Smokey stops in front of the sonic fence? Remember Juliet and Kate in S4 running from it and then Juliet turn on the sonic fence?

That was just a way to call him up. He comes through the jungle from outside the sonic fence. Why not come through the small whole in ben's basement then? Well, I think that all those mechanical sounds that we hear come from an underground device that he is somehow attached to and keep him at bay. What is Alpert exactly? Like another poster said, I also think it's possible that the positioning of the fence itself rather than the high frequency sound waves is what keeps Cerberus at bay. Perhaps that function of the fence was designed more with the Hostiles in mind rather than Cerberus?
