View Full Version : Miles mystery solved!
beema 04-15-2009, 10:03 PM So now we know why exactly Miles was selected by Widmore to be a part of the "science team."
Also the solution to why he demanded 3.2 million from Ben.
anyone else as happy as I am to finally get this out?
Yep. I liked those answers!
toddintexas 04-15-2009, 10:07 PM And we definitely have confirmation that Miles was Chang's baby. That mystery can also be put to bed!
Lostgirlhobbit 04-15-2009, 10:07 PM Yes, I'm very glad they explained that. I was wondering if they ever would. :)
abbybaby 04-15-2009, 10:12 PM Maybe I missed something or missunderstood, Who are the dead people on the island that Widmore needs Miles to comunicate with?

I am going with the Purged Dharma folks...to get answers on what happened.
beema 04-15-2009, 10:14 PM wow
I just realized this episode actually answered more questions instead of introducing new questions
has that ever happened on Lost before?? certainly not any time recently.
Margalit 04-15-2009, 10:17 PM kind of frustrating, though, that they create and answer new questions while we're still waiting to find out things we've been wondering about for YEARS!

OK thanks, that would make sense.
Droogs 04-15-2009, 10:23 PM Poignant moment at the end. . .Snarky Miles getting choked up watching baby Miles with Mom and Dad. . . .(And this is the first time that a future character sees his past self. . . .)
downtown 04-15-2009, 10:24 PM I didn't think that baby Miles and adult Miles could be on the island in the same time period? I'm confused. Help!
Cardielost 04-15-2009, 10:29 PM I didn't think that baby Miles and adult Miles could be on the island in the same time period? I'm confused. Help!
Of course they can. We saw all the time-traveling Lefties on the island at the time Claire gave birth. Locke even saw himself at the hatch when the beam of light turned on.
In some time travel theories or fan speculations--or Dr. "Halliwax's" bunny panic--there is theorizing that this would be catastrophic, but we've never seen any proof of that on the show.

naughtyangel 04-15-2009, 10:31 PM However, I might be inclined as an adult not to hold my baby self. Just in case!!

...and then Chang comes out of the house and says "Miles...I need you"
Miles got choked up, hearing that his dad needed him for the first time

Actually, I think it's if the "2 bunnies" or 2 Miles occupy the same space, ie if they touch each other. That's my take on it anyway.
Alison59 04-15-2009, 10:43 PM And Miles saw his dad holding him and spending time with him as a baby. It's the first time he realizes his dad really did love him!

Claire held her baby self on Heroes when she and Hiro went back.
toddintexas 04-15-2009, 10:50 PM Claire held her baby self on Heroes when she and Hiro went back.
Well, this isn't Heroes (thankfully) where the future/past can be changed.
TickyBox 04-15-2009, 10:51 PM Woo my suspicions that Chang was Miles' dad have been confirmed. That little Dharma baby onesie was adorable.

But didn't Widmore and the Others order the purge? Why would he need Miles to tell him what happened?

That's a good point but there are plenty of other dead bodies on the Island. Widmore probably isn't clear on all that's happened since he left. It's a good idea to have a guy who can talk to dead folks just in case something crazy has gone down. It could make things easier for the team.

I've got to rewatch but I thought Naomi said there were people (dead) on the island that Widmore specifically needed Miles to talk to? This is the only part of the conversation that confused me. I don't know? Has anyone rewatched yet or remember exactly what she said?

I think she said that there are a lot of dead bodies on the island and Widmore needs him (Miles) talk to the dead bodies so that they can know where Ben is on the island.......... something to that extent
Briolette 04-16-2009, 12:02 AM I'm thinking Widmore, who bought the black rock diary/log, is interested in the captain buried on the island.
Now I wonder how long dead is too long ago for Miles to "talk" to...

They cannot be VERY close to each other.
Droogs 04-16-2009, 12:11 AM I didn't think that baby Miles and adult Miles could be on the island in the same time period? I'm confused. Help!
I thought that it was that a future self and a past self cannot occupy the same exact space when future self is time traveling back in time. . . .
qrsarts 04-16-2009, 12:15 AM I agree......Widmore needs Miles to talk to the dead people on the island because Ben is going to be very hard to find.
Didn't we already know why miles was asked to join the team before this episode? I had already figured out he was asked to join because he talked to dead people.

Right, We're just wondering WHO the dead people he needs to talk to are? The ones in the Dharma pit (that never got covered up wich I still think is wierd)? Or did Widmore want to get info out of people that he had Keamy kill? Makes me wonder if thats why Widmore had (or didn't care) Keamy Kill Alex, so Miles could find out were Ben was by talking to her after she was killed?

I thought, from the scene last week, that Widmore was banished after the purge. The Others were already in the barracks and using the submarine....

Right, But I think Miles said (when Hurley and him were having their superpowers convo) That he could'nt "Talk" to the dead like Hurley can, it's more of a feeling and he could find out what happened to them right before they died. I remember him saying they are "brain dead" and he didn't understand or believe that Hurley could have conversations with them. So, I can't imagine the Dharma purge group would be that helpful to the team. Miles would be having to talk to the recently dead to get any useful info.
Loyalbull 04-16-2009, 12:25 PM I think the MILES mystery is PARTLY solved.
I think the 3.2 million figure COULD mean that Miles was "Ben's guy on the boat" all along.
Miles knew that Michael was posing as a stow-away when he met him on the pier.
Ben saying "michael is my guy on the boat" could have been a red herring. AND... likely could have been a red herring to throw people off the scent of Miles being the real guy on the boat.
Its why Ben is so familiar with the 3.2 million phrase.

A truly poignant moment in the epi., and for the first time it really humanized Chang too. I was glad to see that he had the capability of being a regular guy and a happy new dad, instead of being the "douche" we've mostly known up to that point.
BoogaFrito 04-16-2009, 07:51 PM Also the solution to why he demanded 3.2 million from Ben.I suspect this wasn't the "original" reason Miles asked for that amount.
The season was cut short due to the writer's strike, and the money aspect was quickly dropped once the post-strike episodes began airing. It seems pretty unlikely that Miles would ask for exactly $3.2 million simply because of the arbitrary amount offered by Widmore, and not take, say, an even $3 million. He was also confident Ben could get the money. I'm guessing the original plan was to have a dead body reveal information about Ben and how much he had access too.
Just speculation. I'm satisfied with their "answer" to the 3.2 million question either way...
