View Full Version : So the Dharma menfolk sent the women and children away
goddessblue 04-15-2009, 10:48 PM I'm thinking the Dharma men sent their wives and children off island. Possibly having to be a douchebag in the process. Charlotte and her mom left. So did Miles and his mom.
But did they send them away due to "The Incident" or due to the coming war?
Diesels Blitz 04-15-2009, 11:02 PM I think the war is going to take place in present time, right? I think they either sent the women and children away due to "The Incident" or the upcoming purge (if word of it got leaked).
agua fresca 04-15-2009, 11:06 PM Maybe that's why Ethan is with the Others/Hostiles in 1988/1989? Perhaps Amy and Ethan were supposed to leave the Island... but didn't really want to and decided to hide with the Others.
100%

Lost_in_CA 04-16-2009, 01:44 AM I think they sent them away because of the incident, whatever that may turn out to be. But why would Chang's wife be so angry with him that she would lie to Miles about his father not caring about him?
ya that does seem a bit harsh..

Ok, so the Dharma men sent their wives and children off island due to The Incident.

Or (a theory I kinda like) maybe Amy really is an Other (Paul did have an Ankh necklace). And so both Amy and Ethan stayed.
I think they sent them away because of the incident, whatever that may turn out to be. But why would Chang's wife be so angry with him that she would lie to Miles about his father not caring about him?Because Chang acted like a douchebag to get them off island?

What does this expression mean? I haven't heard it before. I realise it isn't complimentary, like.

Thanks, lol
Fierro 04-16-2009, 09:20 AM the lie is gonna be exposed any time now. So I think the losties are all gonna spill the beans about WHEN they came from...
So Dharma are gonna be warned about the incoming Purge and probably the Incident.
But since they had no idea exactly WHAT the Incident really was, they were helpless about trying to prevent that from happening. They didn't even know the year it was supposed to have happened!
skalor 04-16-2009, 09:43 AM A coworker suggested that Chang intentionally sent away his wife and son because he realized that Miles is his son. As shown in the Orchid video, you have to keep away the doubles or else something might happen.

That's a great topic GB! The first thing I thought of after reading Agua's remark was how similar this split might be like the Losties choosing sides to either stay on the Island with Locke, or leave with Jack.
What if the DI faced an enemy like the Losties faced the Freighties? (The Others/Jacob/Smoky, take your preferred foe..) Given the choice, some members left, some stayed and went with the others, and the bravest DI men (Horace, for example.) decided to stay and protect the DI. Those who stayed and had children had them taken before the purge. (Ethan being Horace's child fits my above remark.)
I'm starting to think that perhaps the "incident" involves the deaths of many, many Others...and as retribution/replacements/proxy's for their deaths, they voted on a purge of the DI. Richard/The Island spared the women and children and let them off the Island.
On the other hand, I've long thought Walter lloyd was born on the Island, or made a trip there with Susan and Brian. Walt and Miles have special abilities and we now can assume Miles got it from being exposed to the Island. Sooooooooooooooooooooooo...
it's safe to think Walt was also born there??? Which brings up another question...
Were the women and children really spared? The kids are all going back to the Island...and the one parent that was on the Island dies. What if the Island knew that the only way the men would sacrifice themselves was in knowing their families were safe off Island meanwhile plotting to get them back and finish the job of purging them all?

It's a term I actually can't stand. I've been cringing every time I type it, but it's the term Miles used. LOL, I don't think I've ever actually said it out loud to tell you the truth.
LostMyMarbles 04-16-2009, 02:08 PM I noted on this theme of wives and kids evacuating. But Charlotte had to have left in 1974. If she was 6-7 rather than 3-4 when she left, her mom surely couldn't have pulled off the "it was all your imagination" ploy.

I'm thinking that Dharma and the Hostiles will be at odds because Sawyer and Kate took Ben to Richard to be cured. The DI will think the Hostiles kidnapped Ben - perhaps with Sawyer and Kate's help, if Phil gets that video tape to anyone in authority. That will prompt not a war, but an end of "the truce" at least.

EricI've always loved the idea of Walt being born on the island. But I've never been able to figure out a plausible explanation.
100%

TPTB have already admitted to making a mistake with Charlotte's birth year. There was a big to-do about it a few weeks ago.

I'm glad you did though:biggrin:
When Hurley and Miles said it, I wondered if it was a commonly used insult and under what circumstances it would be used, so I was delighted to see it here on the 'Large so I could ask about it;).
It reminds me of the first time I heard poindexter. I thought my brother was making it up!!
I'm going to take great pleasure in calling people douchebags now.
I am so childish and should be ashamed at my age but hey I just don't care, douche bag is my new favourite insult!!
