View Full Version : This reminds me of East Wind...

I found it interesting when we saw the first Dharma video, and it described the Dharma Initiative as being partly inspired by BF Skinner and utopian socialism, because I used to live in this community (called East Wind) that was (sorta kinda) based on BF Skinner's book Walden Two (ok,well, it branched off of Twin Oaks, which was based on Walden Two), and I thought, wow, that's like where I used to live...
And then it seemed kinda like the character of Horace sure did look a lot like a central member of East Wind, a guy who had lived there longer than anyone else...(but Horace isn't as pretty)...
And then, in Some Like it Hoth, they're signing the VW van in and it looks exactly like how we would have done it at East Wind...
All those things could be coincidental. Then I see a rope hammock in the background of a scene just like the ones we made at East Wind.
You guys are weirding me out.
(On the other hand, we never had those jumpsuits (thank god), and no dudes in lab coats doing experiments.)
Ever been to East Wind or Twin Oaks to get ideas? Just curious.
Thanks,
Eloiserat

Ok, I don't think you guys are going to get around to replying to this--that's ok--but I just wanted to add one quick thing.
The scene at the beginning of "The Incident" when Jacob is weaving that tapestry, and y'all focus just for a second on his feet...
...wearing sandals...
...the exact same kind of sandals that were invented at East Wind!
Ok, obviously Jacob didn't get them from the "Dharma Initiative", but seeing those sandals really made me jump. I'm semi-convinced someone on this show has at least visited EW, and I guess I'd understand if they didn't want to say anything about it...maybe the East Winders would prefer it that way anyway.
I'll just write my own "Horace" and ask him. Thanks.
