Horace.

I cannot believe for one second that this man is the leader of anything.

All he reminds me of is someone who got seriously picked on in junior high.

The way he talks bugs the crap out of me, his jumpsuit looks awful on him, just everything.

Hate him! Sorry to be a negative nancy but this has been bugging me.

The actor who plays him, Doug Hutchinson, is really good. I loved him in the two episodes I first saw him on X-Files in 1993 & 1994. Then in 1999 he really made a name for himself in the Green Mile. Season 3 of Lost is the next time I saw him. I've always enjoyed his acting when he pops up on my radar. As far as the character of Horace goes, I understand your criticism of this "leader." I think he is in charge of one of the few branches of the Dharma. I don't think he's the top guy by any stretch of the imagination. We don't know enough about Dharma to say definitively where he stands in the hierarchy though.

Yup, Tooms is an all-time classic character. I'm enjoying him on Lost. Any actor who can be unrecognizable from role to role is good by me.

Acting-wise, Mrs Hawking sucks the good out of every scene she's in. Her approach to the role is completely out of sync with everyone else. Let's face it, this material has the potential to be VERY hokey, but the cast and the writers manage pull it off. Not her. She might be a fine actress, but it seems as if she hasn't seen the show outside of her scenes.

But what is it about the character that puts him in a leadership role? He doesn't seem exceptionally smart or even authoritative. Was he the original leader of the DI on the island or did he fall into the role, kind of like LaFleur fell into "Head of Security"?

I agree that Horace is a weird one for a character in a leadership role, a lot of the time he doesn't seem like it. Sometimes I get the impression we're not really meant to like Horace that much anyway.I personally think Doug Hutchinson is amazing though.

Horace doesn't bother me nearly as much as Chang. He seems as if he got his acting credentials from the Soap Opera School of Acting.

WHOA I never realized that Horace was the same actor that played Tooms on The X-Files! Weird!

Tooms scares the crap living hell out of me! :fear3: Horace intrigues: he appears small, he's quiet - but turned Jim La Fleur to his will that the vote to execute Sayid was unanimous - he looks like a shambolic scruf even by 70s standards, and yet...

He was right on the spot when Roger Linus and his infant son were in desperate need - presumababy maintaining contact for a decade - and survived a marriage crisis to the disconcertingly composed Amy, to continue as Dharma's on Island administrative leader.

He's so... unlikely.

Coupled with Ben's act of repsect (reverence?) in closing his eyes after his murder, I'm sold on his unnerving, curteous but will kill you if necessary, vibe.

And I love his red hair. red seldom looks good on men (Van Johnson duely acknowledged as an exception) but Horace pulls titian off a treat.

I did not know this either. It has been a while since I had seen Tooms. That is a great character.

Do you think Horace is a worse character (not acting wise) than Palo or Nikki?

Dude, Horace is acting "bad" because he is going to seriously lose his shit and then have a chance to act and show his stuff.

I VERY strongly agree with this. I cringe whenever she speaks, and it's too bad as I have the feeling she'll be somewhat instrumental in giving us some of the answers we all want.

I have to say that Keamy was IMO like a blob of grunting, mumbling muscle. One of the only characters I wanted to die...:21:

I could not stand him.

Bai Ling the woman Jack fell in love with in Thailand was horrible.

I hope I will feel differently soon since she seems to be an important character but Ilana's acting has been bothering me starting with "He's Our You", especially in the bar scene with Sayid. Maybe it's the way she, Bram and Cesar were introduced, but none of them feel like they fit into the show and their lines feel stilted or awkward. It was similar to Paulo and Nikki. Again, I really hope it changes since I want to enjoy the show.

On the whole, though, "Lost" has a great set of actors, from the main cast to people in the flashbacks and flashforwards.

I purposely did NOT watch that episode because I can not stand her at all! I can't believe she was lucky enough to be cast on this great show. She really should count her blessings. I don' t know who did the casting but I am pretty sure there are a million other actresses who would have been soooooooo much better. I eventually watched the eppy., and I have to say that I was very glad that I waited, because it was my least favorite episode out of them all. And judging by the comments made, I think Damon and Carlton are a bit embarassed by the eppy., also not one of their favorites either. And I blame Bai Ling!!

:21: This episode was absolutely revolting on numerous levels. First...I agree with you about ^^ but I also have to tell you...that Jack himself totally freaked me out on multiple levels. For real...the forcing of the tattoos was just :puke:. Took me awhile to get over that one...no lie. :21:

HAHA!! I actually hadn't even thought of that! nice connection!

Radzinsky. Not the man's acting... but the character. He's like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Matthew Fox. I haven't seen him perform anything well, not just on Lost. Shaking bobble head does not emotion make.

I dont really mind about how supporting characters are acting, as long as they got a good story, like Horace, tho I think his acting is great. I dont think hes a militaristic type of guy, so its natural for him to be a paranoid leader, he is a scientist after all, not a general.

Evengeline Lilly must be the worst actress on the show. 5 seasons now and I still cant figure out what goes inside of Kate's head, or what Sawyer or Jack find in her. Her last episode wasnt bad, but I just dont believe she cares about Aaron (acting wise, not story).
