I really enjoyed Faraday on the show and will miss him.... but what was with that plan to speak with his mother?

Run into a group of "hostiles" with a gun and start making demands? Even shooting it a few times? What did he think there reaction would be?!?

Also...

Thanks for the help Jack and Kate!!

Well we haven't seen him die yet so there's always a chance they can save him like they save little Ben.

There is still a chance for that.. potentially. However, the scene where Dan's mother tells him that if he returns to the island it will make her proud. Seems to me like she is sacrificing her son for the island. Of course she knew that sending Dan back to the island would mean his death, but what isn't clear yet is why she believed so strongly about orchestrating the demise of her own son.

It was definitely a FUBAR operation!

As a side note, here's a clip that might be a little humerous to some:

Saving Private Ryan - "FUBAR is not in the German dictionary" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXv2bzp3LNc)

Jump ahead to 2:40 into the clip to see it. Guess who's looking up FUBAR in the German dictionary???

You're right. He might be alive. Doesn't change how idiotic his plan was.

Speaking of that film... his breakdown in the stairs later in the film is just about the most painful scene in cinematic history. YEAH, YEAH, I'm sure there are plenty that are tougher to sit through, but that scene was just... wow. Great actor!

Maybe she knew she would shoot him, but also that he would be healed and go on to do....something important.

Oooooh, alright! Maybe she knows the healing process will turn him into the same kind of dude Ben turns out to be, which would also make her feel pretty guilty! I like this!

I was thinking he went there intent on killing Eloise. If she dies on island, she would never bring him up as a scientist, he would never do time experiments, etc.

I think it was his attempt at being a variable to change things.

I hope Dan's alive but he started to get that glassy "dead" stare at the end of the scene.:frown::frown:

What's up with someone just shooting someone just cause they're holding a gun on someone else? That never happens on LOST.

That was a wonderful scene. You felt for him but you wanted to kill him at the same time. Really astounding.

I was thinking he went there intent on killing Eloise.
I'm not so sure about that. After seeing Eloise wasn't there, he directly asked Richard where the hydrogen bomb was. It seemed he wanted to tell Eloise about the events that are unfolding, and ask her for the bomb.

Eloise was the last person he spoke with about the Bomb being buried before they flashed away, so I doubt he would have killed her, at least not right away. But now that I think about it... way back in Jughead... how did Faraday know there was a bomb there anyway?? His Dharma research in between the time Widmore recruited him and the time he got onthe boat? Is his Journal in some sort of time loop where he continues to add notes to it when he jumps ot different times? Confusing.

He knew about the bomb because the dead soldiers that Miles heard on the way to the Others camps had radiation burns.

That scene was very UN-Dan-ish in my opinion
we always seen him try to make peace, he doesn't even know how to handle a gun
but he walks up tot he hostiles and is ready or atleast pretends to be ready to shoot Richard
he could have walked to the camp with his hands held high to show that he meant no harm
It was almost like he knew he would die...

i dunno maybe i am thinking to much into it, it was out of character though

Ah yes! Thank you! Still a bit of a leap to assume it was a bomb. Eh, maybe not that big.

Yeah. After letting it all sink in, I'm starting to suspect that as well.

yep, i also think he lied to Jack, you really can't change the past even if it is the present for them

He may think he can change the past and be unaware of the universe's course correction. Humans with free will may be able to change circumstances but ulitimately what's supposed to happen will eventually happen.

There is a scene with Richard and Dan, where Richard assumes Dan is on the Island because of the bomb. He tells him that he thinks he is there because of the bomb, so no big issue over how he knows about the bomb. Investigated, saw the huge leak and ran away scared knowing the potential further damage that it could cause, hence why he told them to bury it.

Perhaps Dan will be healed in the temple, but I doubt that it will occur given the gravity of his mother's emotional state when she was telling him it would make her proud if he went to the island. Seems to me that she is just reinforcing her stand point on time and how it cannot be changed. Dan is gone, but his work lives on.
