View Full Version : Same Players/Different Roles
MPmom 05-06-2009, 10:16 PM A lot of role switching in this episode. As we have already seen this season, Jack is now more like John Locke. Kate who always followed Jack without question, is no longer following him blindly. She is more skeptical like the old Sawyer. John, as noted by Richard, has changed. He is confident and in control. He has a plan, like the former Ben. Richard is now much more subservient, like the former Locke.
Does anyone have any theories as to why the roles have all been changed?

As for Richard being more subservient, I dunno about that... Towards the end of the episode, he was really having his doubts about Locke's actions. Wouldn't be surprised if he tries to thwart them somehow.
MPmom 05-06-2009, 10:46 PM "Everything changes" .... Interesting. It certainly has. I will have to revisit the messages in the room 23 video.
I thought Richard seemed all wide eyed and was no longer acting very advisor-ish. Even when Ben was in charge, Richard seemed like the real man behind the curtain. Tonight though, it even seemed like he was shot from a different camera angle. We were looking more downward at him than usual. He appeared shorter, while Locke seemed 7 feet tall.

Sawyer is definitely the new Jack.
That must explain why I love him so much this season.

Wow! Now that is pretty cool! Sawyer has new fans because he's acting like Jack! That's prett funny!

I noticed how they shot him differently too, but my take on it was that he was being treated like one of the main cast members, instead of a minor character like before. Hopefully that's foreshadowing that he WILL be a main cast member next season.

More Richard and less Ben, please! And it's not just for the pretty. Richard's an absolutely fascinating character.
I think the ascendance of Locke has to do with his beating death and knowing that he's exactly where he's supposed to be and what he's supposed to do. It's all coming together for him. Ben, on the other hand, doesn't know what's going to happen and things have been happening that are out of his control - like Locke resurrecting. And Ben not having control puts him completely off his game.
art_lipchalk 05-06-2009, 11:44 PM Maybe everyone seems to be in different roles because when the O6 came back, they didn't recreate the "exact" conditions from the first time around. Hawking did say to them that if they didn't bring everybody, the results would be "unpredictable", or something to that effect.
Last time I checked, Aaron wasn't with them when they came back...

I agree with you on all the "role changes" except for Richard. I don't believe that he was more or less subservient than before. He seemed reluctant to acquiesce to Locke's requests, but doing so doesn't make him any more subservient than we have seen him in the past.

Adam118 05-07-2009, 04:13 AM I'd say Jack = Locke and Lock = Jack
Jack talks of destiny and crazy things that hinge on faith.
Locke is a very strong leader and is leading his people off the beach after giving a rousing speech. Also, he's VERY skeptical of Jacob, something that old Jack would be.
