1. Richard first met Locke in 1954
2. Richard then saw Locke right after he was born
3. Richard then saw Locke as a child and gave him a test
4. Richard then saw Locke in 2004 and gave him the leadership position
5. Richard then saw Locke in 2007 when John came back from the dead

My first question is why did Richard go see Locke being born and again as a child?

My second question is was it the DI, Richard or Abadon who wanted to test Locke in high school and send him to the special "science school"

My thoughts are.

1. Locke set this whole thing in motion when he jumped to 1954 and told Richard he was their leader so Richard went to see him after he was born to verify Locke Co.s story about being from the future etc. and then he went back to test Locke and I assume had he passed the test Locke would have been invited to go back to the island.

2. I think it was actually Abadon or the DI who invited high school Locke to the "science school" and not Richard, from all we have seen about Richard and the others they are anti science and are more faith based. This plays in with Lockes struggles with science vs faith and he ultimately chose faith.

One other thing, who was Abadon really? I know he was shown as he was working for Widmore but I think he was not, it appeared as though he had intimate knowledge of the island and we never saw him back in 1954 or 77 otherville with Widmore.

here are my thoughts on who Abadon could be.

1. He is the mainland's Richard a guide/advisor
2. He is one of the true founders of Dharma
3. He had Richards job on the island and was forced off much like ben did to widmore.

Any feedback would be helpful as I think these issues may have a lot to do with what is actually going on...

GELLERT: I know you're probably upset right now, but I do have some exciting news for you. I got a call from Portland recently. There's a company up there doing some very exciting things in chemistry and new technologies. They're called Mittelos Laboratories. I spoke with a Dr. Alpert. He's very interested in finding young, bright minds to enter into these new fields of science. They want you to go to their camp this summer.

ALPERT: Thank you for taking the time to let us make our pitch, Dr. Burke. Mittelos Bioscience is based in Oregon. We're just outside of Portland. [he shows some slides of workers strolling through the grounds] Uh, these shots might seem a little cheese-ball, but our people really are this happy. Now why? Because we're privately funded. Privately funded means freedom. [he shows a slide of people doing outdoor activities] We organize trips every week in and around the Portland area which is just awesome for hiking and biking and river running
JULIET: Look, when you -- your company -- reached out to me I was flattered. But I don't really know why you would want me.

Mittelos Laboratories and Mittelos Bioscience are the same companies. Richard was the one who who tried to get Locke to go to the camp.

Ah, I stand corrected. It was Richard who had been looking for Locke in high school.

So where does Abadon fit in, he is the one who encouraged Locke to go on the walkabout in the first place?
