View Full Version : The truce and the TREES

I start from a question: what is the truce? We have seen that the others (Widmore, eloise, etc...) are armed as soldiers, but they don't seems so bad to want a war with other people over the island. Not in the 70s... so, why there is a truce? they have something that they wants to defend. The island? Not completely true, because they permit to Dharma to work over the island... The problem is that some parts of the island must be not explored or modified... so do they want to defend the temple??? no, it's something inside the temple... something around the jungle... and i think that it will concern the TREES...
Now we know the lost is a scifi show, so... do u know Orson Scott Card? Maybe on the island there was some kind of trees that is a sort of living being with a conscience... These trees have some straordinary properties to heal people from wounds (and maybe death)... but their spores come inside to the people and contaminate them... became a sort of symbiont that have a collective mind... this would explain the whispers in the forest... this would explain how locke talk with the island... and this would explain why the others wants to defend a part of the island... this part of the island is the part of the island where the ancient trees lived... this could explain why "horace throwing bombs" is a menace for the truce... this could explain why "the ostiles" attack horace and his girl... they are in a part of the forest with young trees.... This could explain why some people are healed (like locke, rose and ben) and what is the "illness" (we have seen that people that went to the temple and come back are not completely on their own)... This could explain why the hostiles wanted the body of dead people... they want to avoid the Dharma people discover the properties of trees on the island and that dead people are not dead people (not at all!)... Why Richard is not going older? because he was dead... maybe with the crash of the BlackRock and trees have been resurrected him...
Maybe Jacob is not a man, but the oldest tree... and Locke wanted to kill him because for some reason is not completely dominated by the will of the island... Locke is a special guy... it couldn't be a simple zombie...

And they say the word for "world" is "forest"...

Interesting. Horace hacks down trees to build his cabin and this is where we find Jacob, sort of, and Christian.

The Others believe they are protecting the Island. Ben made it quite clear a few times that his people could be manipulated, of course for the right reasons as Ben interprets them. Richard seems pretty irritated that Locke is out to call the Jacob bluff with his people in tow as witnesses.

Are you saying that Jacob has just been saying "Good.Morning" for the past 5 seasons? I.E. Treebeard?

:21:

The idea with the spores is pretty cool actually ;) I've personally always wondered why no one has ever complained about mosquitos or any other insects for that matter. (?)

no... i didn't say good morning... it have driven the whole pattern of action of a lot of guys... the illness, maybe also the sterility... i think that a lot of things that live on the island is contaminated and symbiotic with the spore of the trees... probably also other living species... as the fly or the mosquitos... they are symbiotic.. they use this other bodies for their purposes living them in the feeling of free will... jacob wants to stay covered... why? maybe because it was very different from a person... don't you think? what is smokey? smookey is rooted in the past... at the time of ancient egyptian... and trees could be very ancient... maybe the temple have been built around the trees... to preserve them...

Maybe the Temple was built in the trees to protect the Temple...

 I was only joking about 'good morning' because you said ..

Maybe Jacob is not a man, but the oldest tree...

I suddenly saw him as an Ent putting his own flaming head out in a river. ;)

The idea with the spores causing the sickness is interesting (and different). Another thing I've often wondered is...why are people able to hide from smokey in the banyon trees? It's obvious he can squeeze through tunnels, etc...so why not the trees?

*unless of course it's just a question of who is hiding in them...but dont get me started on that*

Maybe the Temple was built in the trees to protect the Temple...

i think the temple had to be built around something important... usually the ancient put in the middle of the temple some precious holy stuff or they built up it over something they believe it's the source of power...

Eco marked trees for his church...is that anything like the lists made for people on the island?

Trees have a symbolic connection to man...tree of life...tree of knowledge...Kabbala.

I do like the spore idea! There's absolutely more to the trees than we have seen.

Trees are also symbolized as being complete by its seed. I don't remember where I read that, I just remember thinking of the distinction/connection of DNA and human reproduction.

perhaps the fault of mr eko is also to kill trees in order to build the church..

daredevil and anyone else interested, you might want to check out the Trees: Our Theories thread (http://forum.thefuselage.com/showthread.php?t=109758) we started. Some great tree theories there! I will also link this thread for reference.

I love your connections between the tree and the temple--interesting idea with Jacob. And your ideas of symbiosis or parasitism fit in very well with some possible thoughts on that thread.
