It was interesting seeing how he behaved throughout the episode... At times he really seemed like he was either malevolent, or an enabler to destructive patterns in people's lives.

Kate - He bails her out of the consequences of stealing as a child. Kate goes on to live a life of crime.
Sawyer - He gives him the pen that he uses to write a letter that fuels his desire for revenge and leads him to become a conman.
Sun/Jin - He "blesses" their marriage, but what he says seems malevolent somehow.... Something to the effect of "don't take you're love for granted, you never know when you might lose each other." Awfully foreboding.

Notice the way he did these things, they were masked with seemingly good intentions (Jacob = trickster, deciever)

Also -
- The way he touched Locke... Seemed weird, like he did something to him when he touched him. It just had a creepy vibe to it.
- He was there when Nadia died... seemed almost like he influenced it or contributed to it happening.
- Then, of course, there was the beach conversation... His intentions seemed pretty capricious and questionable there....

His interaction with Jack, IIRC, seemed relatively benign.
His interaction with Hurley seemed like the only, truly, genuinely good natured one.
