View Full Version : "End of the World"
BurningStar4 04-30-2005, 03:31 AM In the scene where Charlie, Kate and Jack go off in search of the plane, and the weather suddenly went from nice to dark, Charlie commented about how that could be possible and how it seemed like "end of the world" type weather. I was thinking, could this be of any significance....maybe some sort of war broke out among numerous countries, or a plague (much like in "The Stand") and our castaways are the only survivors left in the world...if not that, then I was at least happy to see how the weird weather changes (and going from light to dark quickly) was addressed earlier by a character (since I never caught that line before this episode).
Aurora10 04-30-2005, 03:49 AM The second time that I heard Charlie say that, I started to think that maybe his line was significant. Star, that's a very good theory!
Shayidlova1220 04-30-2005, 12:47 PM That would be an incredible end to the whole series. Since no one has any thing really to go back to in the "real world", it could be like the island saved them.
Bescky 04-30-2005, 12:53 PM Yeah but lets wait 10 yrs from now to see that type of ending.
Robinhood56 05-03-2005, 08:22 PM I just assumed it was because they were on an island. Weather can change very quickly on islands without land features and such to slow down winds and such.
That's why the British carry umbrellas with them. I spent a semester in England and it would be raining to my right and clear to my left. At the time the kids I was in school with were amazed that we had a 5 day forecast and it was relatively accurate.
Just watch Survivor. They have sudden storms happening all the time.
Aurora10 05-03-2005, 08:26 PM Yeah, that's what I thought at first but it seems like everything is significant on Lost.
Overshot 05-04-2005, 01:21 PM This theory held up right until the epuisode where Boone is injured when he's radioing for help in the plane. He got through to someone, remember? The outside world still survives.
Bess2728 05-04-2005, 02:08 PM Burning Star - fascinating theory. I've often wondered that myself, since we don't know what is going on "back home."
Boone - we still don't know what was said - and if it was the "outside world." It could be somone right there on the island! ;)
SpaceWrangler 05-04-2005, 02:57 PM That's great, it starts with an earthquake, birds and
snakes, an aeroplane and Lenny Bruce is not afraid.
Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn - world
serves its own needs, dummy serve your own needs. Feed
it off an aux speak, grunt, no, strength, Ladder
start to clatter with fear fight down height. Wire
in a fire, representing seven games, a government
for hire and a combat site. Left of west and coming in
a hurry with the furies breathing down your neck. Team
by team reporters baffled, trumped, tethered cropped.
Look at that low playing! Fine, then. Uh oh,
overflow, population, common food, but it'll do. Save
yourself, serve yourself. World serves its own needs,
listen to your heart bleed dummy with the rapture and
the revered and the right, right. You vitriolic,
patriotic, slam, fight, bright light, feeling pretty
psyched.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine. R.E.M.
Sorry... after I read the title of this thread I could not get this song out of my head

Well, no.* The voice said "We are the survivors of Flight 815" therefore, the voice on the radio, is on the island.* They (or just he/she) have their own transmission going, or they found the radio tower, either way they intercepted Boone's message.* Or it was simply just the "others" toying with him.*
Bess2728 05-04-2005, 03:17 PM exactly. :) perhaps they will give us a glimpse of "back home" in season 2 or 3, which would address this end of the world type of thing.
BurningStar4 05-04-2005, 03:18 PM Well, on ABC they slowed down the clip and took away all the background noise and that is clearly what it says. Also, Kristen (the spoiler chick) was saying how it was "There are no survivors..." and now after going out to visit camp Lost, she's changed it to "We are the survivors"

That just tells me that we can't trust anybody as to what the voice says. I will wait for conformation from TPTB. Then I will believe the translation.
BurningStar4 05-04-2005, 03:33 PM Well I heard it for myself on the episode, over on the ABC LOST site.....I think that's pretty clarifying.
