View Full Version : First date?

So, I assume that this was Janice's first date with this gal since they weren't clear on each other's careers. Which makes the whole scene really weird. Who says "I would never let you down" on a first date? That's just kind of weird. Then you decide to top off the whole scene with a really intimate kiss between two women that barely know each other in a public space? Just weird. Then she leaves a woman, who's practically a stranger, alone in her house? I've never thought to myself "Hey. I just slept with this chick after our first date. I'm sure I can totally leave her alone in my house!"

On a side note, Janice apparently lives a couple blocks from where I lived as a kid in Highland Park, Los Angeles. So that's cool!

Just because it was a first date doesn't mean they just met each other. They were both at that martial arts class, for all we know they've been going there together for years and are great friends who only started dating.

Definitely some weird conduct for a first date and if they did just meet it's completely irrational behaviour...but I don't remember them saying anything about just meeting each other.

I was thinking the same - it seemed like they already knew each other somewhat well but were new at the dating thing.

Well, they weren't even clear on what each other did for a living. So it seems they only knew each other in the most cursory way. Either way, it was just a strangely written scene.

I agree, that scene was really freakin weird. The whole relationship between them really.

Like when she see's her the next day and flips out and goes "I... I can't do this!"
My girlfriend turned to me and said "who the hell says that after a first date?"
It was way too intense for two people who clearly barely knew each other.

Being a sloot is one thing, but giving someone you just met free reign of your house? When you're an FBI agent? Seriously?

Just piping in to say I agree with these sentiments.

It was way over-done. To the point of awkward. Everything they said was dripping with "sensuality." They had that "hey look I'm secksay" tone every time they spoke to each other it seemed. The kisses were forced. Mass Effect the video game contains better examples of lesbian relationships than this episode.

Yes, parts of the relationship were very odd, very stilted in fact, but it is quite plausible they knew each other for some time in their TaeKwonDo class (yes, that's what Janice was doing). I used to do TaeKwonDo and went to classes for years, most often with the same people for most of those years, and I knew several people very well in class, but couldn't tell you anything about their lives outside of class.

Yea, that was weird she would let her hang out in her house. But it seems some sort of turn on for her to have her go through her stuff.

Totally weird.
Didn't Janis say she could not come 'out' because of her job and then just after that she locks lips in a public restaurant?
That's being discrete?

She doesn't mind whatshername going through her things, in fact expects it, and then does a total turnaround when she's been Mosaic ed?
She doesn't expect anyone to see and ask questions about what she put on a public board?

She freaks over a discussion about a (maybe) future pregnancy (which is now moot after the shooting, I would think)......a discussion with someone she cares for and over whom she seems to be ga-ga. This upsets her????

I have a feeling these scenes were written by males who sometimes just don't get the relationship 'thing' or have a clue about a woman's motivation.
I thought the same for some of Kate's scenes and for Juliet's reasoning at the end of S5.

Written by Nicole Yorkin, Dawn Prestwich, Barbara Nance

I've also been noticing there are quite a few women in the writing credits.

HA, you blame it on male writers but it happens to be written by 3 female writiers. Thats classic.

This episode seemed rushed but I think these events took place over the course of 39 hours from what the text at the beginning told us. Lets see...

Early morning (before work?) - Karate class
Evening - dinner with Maya (Thats her name right?)
Early morning next day - Breakfast before work (Disappointed Maya wasnt in her Victoria Secret outfit but rather some boxer shorts, who are they btw? She pack those just in case?)
Early Evening - Drama over janis possible pregancy (at art gallery?)
Late Evening - Gun down

The whole Janis thing seemed extremely forced.

As I said before this was confirmed, I think television needs more strong, non-stereotypical GLBT characters, so I'm pleased with Janis being a lesbian...she is one of my favorite characters so far--so good at her job, strong principles, good chemistry with the team...so I'm happy, and I don't think she has fallen into any unfortunate stereotypes thus far. :)

That said, I did feel a bit uneasy about how the whole thing played out as well. I love what Christine Woods has been doing with Janis, and Navi Rawat is great, but it seem a bit over the top to me. I guess it made sense for Maya to be all over it, as she now believes she is going to get married to someone soon and is probably more receptive to rushing head long into things...but what was Janis' thinking? And why did they sound like an old married couple in their break up, as was pointed out? "I can't take this anymore?" I agree that it's a weird thing to say the day after your first date.

I can't help wonder if there is something else going on...maybe that theory that I read that the future has already happened...? They might have subconscious memories of a previous relationship...or maybe they are just supposed to have instant, passionate chemistry and for some reason it just didn't click like it was supposed to for us as the audience?

I can't help but be cynical about this relationship working out in the long haul, because isn't Navi Rawat
a regular on NUMB3RS???

I fully agree.
There was an earlier comment about how she 'got whooped' (or some such thing), I found this to be rather dense. Janis sooo owned that guy, three motions and he was neutralized (to the fullest extent).
