I noticed when Jacob visited Illana that he wore gloves. As far as we know, he didn't touch her. I began to wonder if Jacob can't touch anyone. If he were to touch anyone, he'd do to them whatever he did to the Oceanic six when he visited them. This would explain partially why lives in isolation. It would also explain why he stays separate from the others. However, a problem arises when you stay isolated from your people. My theory is he made them into a cult. Jacob set himself up as a great God, not unlike the Pharohs of ancient Egypt. The others are into brainwashing. I guess they'd also kill each other if anyone even questioned Jacob. Such conditions breed Fanatics. However, that only goes so far for so long. In order to complete the control, they are convinced it's their choice. That is what Ben tried to do Jack, what Ethan did to Claire. Sawyer called it the Long Con. Jacob makes them think it's there idea. I also think that Jacob is either walking a very fine line, or has crossed a line with his principles, since, according to what he told Ben, Jacob believes in choice. Perhaps this hypocrisy maybe a reason why MIB wants to kill him. That being said, I believe when Jacob is found dead, the Others will unravel and become more forthcoming with what they know.

Ilana says she's very happy to see him.

What if the Others are right? What if we really are the cause of our own suffering?
