View Full Version : To Which of the Following Age Group Do You Belong ?
Hiram 12-07-2004, 12:36 PM This poll is part of my continuing effort to track the demographics of the LOST posting fanbase.
Please, if you see any mistakes, or have any suggestions for the poll let me know.* Thanks!

Tracker 12-07-2004, 12:56 PM I'm curious to see how may of us (41-50) geezers there are around here. I feel 41 is pretty old to be obsessed with a TV show, and squeeeeeing fangirliness should be long behind me. But, I'm not going to give it up in the name of maturity!
Smidge 12-07-2004, 01:07 PM Right there with ya, Tracker.
pot_and_bombs 12-07-2004, 01:14 PM I'm 26, but I like the fact that most of the people I talk to online are in the 30-40 range. Their squee, 'tis much more...refined, if you will. ;)
diablita 12-07-2004, 01:36 PM Tracker & Smidge... I agree... but then I've never grown up... so it's ok... hee hee
oh... and HI Hiram
*hugs* for the poll taker... :P ;D
kaidysoft 12-07-2004, 04:55 PM 27 and counting here....not too old, not too young...
lol
kaidy
FlarnChef 12-07-2004, 07:16 PM I'm curious to see how may of us (41-50) geezers there are around here. I feel 41 is pretty old to be obsessed with a TV show, and squeeeeeing fangirliness should be long behind me. But, I'm not going to give it up in the name of maturity!
And how do we categorize the (51- death) groups, if not geezers? :::thinks::: Maybe I can call my squeeeeeing fangirliness something having to do with senility and regression. *snerk*
Tari Luinwe 12-07-2004, 08:14 PM I'm 29. Though I always seem to be carded for stuff. In October I went to a casino for the first time and I got carded. He almost didn't let me in. :-\ Luckily my dad was with me and he eventually let me in. But yeah 29 could pass for 18, woohoo me! ;)
Merry 12-07-2004, 10:30 PM I'm 21 so that lets me 12 years before my Hobbit coming of age...
Varda 12-08-2004, 06:57 PM I've been Earth for 14 years, though I am 20 in Oakley years, which can be translated to 154 Earth years in total . I just selected the first though.
Hiram 12-08-2004, 07:04 PM OK, Varda, I'll ask, what is Oakley years, and please don't say it has
something to do with the sunglasses or I'll be real disappointed!
:santa:
JordanMcCoyIsLost 12-08-2004, 07:08 PM I'm 17, almost in the next age group ;) lol!
Varda 12-08-2004, 07:20 PM Okay, this is complicated. Oakley is a street that is the same distant from my friend's house as mine is, though in the other direction. So for a very long time she kept saying that I lived on Oakley, even though she knew where I lived and everything. I eventually became known as the crazy lady who lives on Oakley, made even crazier with the fact that I do not live on Oakley. Then there is also the fact that I am not from this planet. I do not know how to say where my ancestry is with these vocal chords (it is a very advanced type of cloning, messing around with the cells and everything so I have a human body, and remember everything the origional me remembers) so I just call the amount of time my life was measured in before coming to Earth Oakley years. I'll be here for 10 Oakley years all together, leaving after 70 Earth years, which would be a common time for a human life to end. By the time I get back to where I grew up (actually not Oakley, I was born on a teaching 'spaceship' and spent my childhood rarely stepping on a planet) I will be 28 years of age, and have quite a bit of money, as long as I do a good job observing this planet so the Council members can decide whether or not to extend their hands and other you a spot in our alliance.
Rather simple to me, but seeing how others react when I explain it, it isn't. Then again, I live it.
Hiram 12-09-2004, 01:27 AM you know Varda if you have really been observing well, you would know
that you could get away with staying here until you were 85 even 90 earth
years of age and no one would be the wiser!
:santa:
Varda 12-09-2004, 07:02 PM I know, but I don't want to be stuck in an inactive body for my last years. I know many are still very active at 100, but I think 70 is the right amount, not pushing my luck. The chances of something going wrong with this body (especially since it's a mix that hasn't been attempted before me, and our lifespans are drastically different) get higher as I age. And ten years is a long time to be away from home. Earth has been very welcoming, and I have to say this childhood is better than my first, but after 70 all those who welcomed me here will be passing on. If you had a chance to skip the shock of your friends dying, wouldn't you? It some ways it is better to simply say good-bye and move on with my other life.
crsty1961 12-09-2004, 11:35 PM I'm curious to see how may of us (41-50) geezers there are around here.
MEMEME TRACKER!!**raises hand**
I'm 43. ;D
Dagirlindajeans 12-11-2004, 10:34 PM smack me in the 23-29 yr old group
hey crsty1961, have you ever visited Dom's Unoffical site runned by Malia? your username looks familiar.
drive_shaft 12-13-2004, 04:21 AM 14 candles... almost 15... march 31...yay!
JennieJamJar 12-13-2004, 11:15 AM 21 at the end of the month, but I feel either 26 or 48 most days, heh.
surreality_fan 12-13-2004, 03:18 PM I'm 26 by the way, and this thread is freaking me out a bit. I mean finding out how old people I have been talking to for over a month is cool and bizarre.
I still get carded for everything... got thrown out of a bar a few months back because the bartender refused to believe that I was old enough, and they refused to accept my license because I had a duplicate because I lost the original.
Oh and even better, this was about a year ago... I got carded going into an R Rated movie... they guy looked at my license and started laughing.
Speaker 12-13-2004, 03:49 PM 171.5 in dog years.
Starlet 12-13-2004, 04:37 PM I'm going to be 20 soon!!! (Jan. 5th) Oh, dear...I'm gonna have a mental breakdown... I won't be able to say "teen" after my age anymore!!! Well, I could, but I'd sound rediculus...
I feel like I'm 15 though. Hmm
crsty1961 12-13-2004, 09:45 PM hey crsty1961, have you ever visited Dom's Unoffical site runned by Malia? your username looks familiar.
Yes I sure have. :)
Not lately though I'm mostly on LJ or at StarDom.
FoxFan 12-13-2004, 10:04 PM I'm 26 and seems like a lot of us 20-somethings get mistaken for teenagers. I did my student teaching last year and was repeatedly mistaken for a student. I even had a ninth grade girl try to pick a fight with me . . . I think she thought I was a new student and felt threatened. It was kinda fun to punk her down by threatening to send her to the principle's office.
It is neat to learn more about the people we've been hanging out with. Did I just say "neat"? I'm pretty sure that's not part of the hip lingo anymore . . . well that and "sike."
WhiteSapphire 12-13-2004, 10:12 PM I'm 23, but I never get carded for anything anymore. I think it started on my 21st birthday--even on my 21st birthday, I had to ask to be carded! I'd hate to think it's because I look old . . ..* >:( I just like to pretend it's because I look "mature."* ;)
Well that birth certificate I have says 30 something but I tell ya I still feel 20 something. I do know this, never in my life have I posted anything on any board before or been so obsessed with something on TV!! This show has me hooked beyond belief. I'm usually a reader and my friends are amazed at my new found love of TV.
Hiram 12-18-2004, 02:18 AM Folks, I gotta tell ya, I am surprised at the way the poll is going thus far.
Over 40% of the people responding to the poll are in the over 30 groups.
Dagirlindajeans 12-18-2004, 04:44 PM Yes I sure have. :)
Not lately though I'm mostly on LJ or at StarDom.
:D i thought you looked familiar. ;)
hey, I haven't been around StarDom much, how is that place?
crsty1961 12-18-2004, 05:45 PM * :D i thought you looked familiar.* ;)
hey, I haven't been around StarDom much, how is that place?
Doing great, Bobbi has had problems with the Gallery, because one of the places she got pics from decided to be snippy, so now no pics.* :'(
Other than that we are still growing and everyone at this point is family over there. :)
Come over and visit, what is your screen name on EZ-Boards?
Oh I've friended you over at LJ.
MorwenLaicoriel 12-18-2004, 05:48 PM I'm 17. YAY TEENAGERS!! W00T! XD I can wear crazy clothes and get away with it, because "oh, she's a teenager"! :punk:
Dagirlindajeans 12-18-2004, 06:12 PM Doing great, Bobbi has had problems with the Gallery, because one of the places she got pics from decided to be snippy, so now no pics.* :'(

I've friended you back. :)
crsty1961 12-18-2004, 06:20 PM Aw that's fantastic!* yeah, I really should start visiting there.* The silly gal, Cheekymoo, I believe, is a mod over there, isn't she?
I've friended you back. :)
Yes Moo is and she's there lots. :D Please do the more the merrier.
Hiram 12-24-2004, 03:00 AM Well all of a sudden the under 30 crowd has decided to start voting.
So much for the over 30 folks having the majority, or something!
WhiteSapphire 12-24-2004, 10:19 AM Well all of a sudden the under 30 crowd has decided to start voting.
So much for the over 30 folks having the majority, or something!
I bet that has some correlation to Christmas break . . . the young 'uns are home, have no schooll to keep them busy, so they come and vote in your poll. Silly kids.
Hiram 12-28-2004, 05:50 PM ah ha, I bet you are right White Sapphire! I will be curious to see how things change when school starts up again!
goloptious 12-28-2004, 09:34 PM I am 23 and enjoying every minute of it!
Robinhood56 12-28-2004, 09:51 PM Limping along at 48. And I do mean limping. Bum knees.
Hiram 01-08-2005, 02:08 AM Robin I can relate, I had my left knee taken out by a 35# kid, I mean sweet child!
sadasi 01-08-2005, 07:12 AM Mentally or physically? ;D
I'm 18 (but sometimes I think i'm 12)
EllaStarr 01-08-2005, 10:16 AM Well, I'm 18. I guess that's semi-young for here? but people always think I'm older. I can't decide if that's good or bad...
EllaStarr, I'm 38 and everyone thinks I'm younger, so I know what ya mean. ;D
JohnnyREB1977 01-08-2005, 06:14 PM 27. 28 in August.
Merenwen 01-09-2005, 10:13 AM I be 21 :w00t: :P
weehobbit 01-09-2005, 04:20 PM Well i just turned 31 on Jan 3rd :'( but everyone i meet think i'm in my early 20s..so i'm happy with that ;D

jkupc 01-23-2005, 06:20 AM 18 which is in fact rather young for this particular board. Hmm for once I am watching an intelligent show. * is proud*
bri_nic23 01-23-2005, 10:59 AM well somewhere else I said I was 23 but today is my unbirthday!
Soon though I will be 24~yay for me! And I do get carded, but this is a small town so I only get carded once and then they know me! Sad--I like to be carded....so I still look young you know
dweebus 01-23-2005, 11:18 AM I am 26 also P&B! Good to know you and you all everybody else also.... :-*
Hi dweebus. Glad to meet ya!!
Karrin Murphy 01-23-2005, 11:33 AM Well I'm not part of the desired demographic but I'm part of the audience and I buy a lot of stuff. Maybe they should adjust the demographics to factor in the use of Tivo. Older consumers are probably less likely to do that so more likely to be reached by ads. Or how about incorporating more advertisers products into the show ? Like Charlie should have brought Claire an empty Skippy peanut butter jar or Hurley should have explained to Jin that what he wanted was like...Chicken of the Sea ?? And how about Jack ? He could have spots where all the over the counter meds that were scavenged from the plane are shown as part of his medical set-up and even use brand names when medicating... ::)
Crazy_Crab2000 01-24-2005, 07:44 PM im 13, i think
Bliss 01-24-2005, 07:57 PM I'm in the third demographic but I've always been an "old soul  ." I have to say that I love that there's a 101-older choice and I think it would be wonderful if more people from the latter categories joined. I've never known anyone who lived past 100 but my great aunt passed away in her late nineties and she always had the best stories and most interesting takes on everything!
dramapunk 01-24-2005, 08:44 PM 21 heh I get carded so much the clerks tell me , hey 14 year olds cant buy booze, then I grumble and say this will come in handy when I am like 40
Cheshyre 01-24-2005, 11:33 PM Just turned 25 (Jan. 12th). I'm officially an antique. ;D
And so begins the slow slide to 30. Heh.
TerryLost 01-25-2005, 11:48 PM Hiram,
Didn't your mother ever tell you that it's not polite to ask a lady her age?
domslady07 01-26-2005, 12:40 AM 31 here will be 32 next month But I feel like I'm 90 at the moment :lol2: I had along work out tonight
Hiram 01-26-2005, 01:38 AM TerryLost, I never called anyone a lady on this board a far as I know! :lol2:
Besides, its a voluntary.
Hiram 01-28-2005, 12:36 AM It seems the age grouping has shifted to about :
60 percent below 30 years old
and
40 percent at or above 30 years old!
We have 6 voters who are in the 51-60 bracket!
Roni1 01-28-2005, 12:54 PM My father-in-law watches Lost - not religiously, but if it' s on. Problem is, he is also a Smallville fan! He's 81....
Besides the fact that I am not 81, I'm 27, I was taping Smallville because I too am a fan of both and I would rather watch Lost when it's on and watch Smallville after, but I lost my VCR and and can't find it. Dang it!! hehe!! :lol2:
TerryLost 01-29-2005, 12:10 AM TerryLost, I never called anyone a lady on this board a far as I know!* :lol2:
Hiram,
I should go buy a lottery ticket, because somehow I knew you were going to say that. ;D
Hiram 02-02-2005, 02:30 AM Well the age group representation continues to shift.
With 161 votes in, 61.5 percent of thefuselage votine members say they are under 30,
while 38.5 percent are 30 or above! When the poll first began these numbers were
about equal! hum! :-\
chellekay 02-03-2005, 10:21 PM I find this polling stuff very intersting
Kerry from Cali 02-04-2005, 03:07 AM I'm quite happy to help pad the "oldies" column. i'm 40. :)
(i was tickled pink to see so many other people my age or older.)
these polls are interesting. keep them up!~
anmawin 02-07-2005, 05:59 PM 23!?! Where have the years gone. And 24 is only right around the corner.
CrazyDiamond44 02-07-2005, 06:06 PM i'm 17. no more, no less
Domhobbit 02-07-2005, 06:09 PM I'm 20! The show has a wide range in ages!
tracy 02-07-2005, 06:12 PM I'm 14, yay for youngest age group... but what about the people under 13?
ocean_fire 02-07-2005, 06:22 PM Teens rule! ;)
reallylikesj 02-08-2005, 03:15 AM 28 here. :)
TerryLost 02-08-2005, 09:07 PM I'm 14, yay for youngest age group... but what about the people under 13?
Haven't you heard? I think it's some sort of US law or something about children under 13 not being allowed membership to forums. All those crazy weirdos* lurking on the internet,* you know.* :(* Don't know how 13 was picked as the "magic number."
The info is somewhere around here....in the forum rules or bylaws or FAQ....somewhere.
sawyergirl2 04-04-2005, 02:08 AM 19 here! ;D But I also have my whole family involved my mom, 2 aunts, 2 uncles; 4 of my friends (20-21); plus I'v addicted at least two of my coworkers and am slowly trying to convert my brother (17)
LostCSIFan 04-04-2005, 02:19 AM I'm 32 but I know people younger then Me AS well as Older then me that are hooked on LOST
Bescky 04-13-2005, 09:21 PM I'm 16 but I'll be 17 in November.
Superman 04-13-2005, 09:27 PM 25... 26 later this year
canuck19girl 04-13-2005, 09:28 PM 33 but I act like a teenager * :jump: :jump1: :punk:
LostCSIFan 04-13-2005, 11:57 PM 33 but I act like a teenager * :jump: :jump1: :punk:

Aurora10 04-14-2005, 12:11 AM 18...19 in May. ::counts:: 26 more days!
sawyergirl2 04-14-2005, 12:19 AM Yay! Someone else close to my age! I'm 19, though seems very few others are that age :P
XxNicholeexX 04-14-2005, 02:10 AM I'm in the 13-17 bracket.
islandchica 04-14-2005, 02:11 AM I'm in the 13-17 bracket.
Yup. Same here.
rathrbLOSTwithDOM 04-14-2005, 02:15 AM I'm in the 36 year old group. ;D
Marina
ruiner 04-14-2005, 12:59 PM I'm in the 23-29 age group. The majority is under 30. That's interesting because the majority of Lost fans I know are older than that. Still, I like the distribution. The show has something for all ages.
teerose 04-14-2005, 08:03 PM 45-looks like the oldest lately
waltisfuture 04-14-2005, 08:16 PM 42, but teerose, that just makes us Cougars, and that's a good thing.
Hiram 04-15-2005, 01:17 AM This and all of my Polls are compiled at one site. Here is the link:

mac5266 04-15-2005, 11:03 AM I have about 16 days left of being 38. I cannot believe I will be 40 in a year! :o I could have sworn I was still 25.
CharlieLuv 04-15-2005, 03:44 PM I'm in the 13-17 age group! I'm 17! I'm surprised to see many people who watch Lost are under thirty! I have never met anyone my age who watches Lost! Well, except for on here! :lol2:
peanutbutter101 04-15-2005, 06:53 PM I'm at the bottom of the 13-17 group. But not for long! As of the 18th, I will officially no longer be 13 anymore! :lol2:

And you should expecxt a wildy fascinating party for you in the Birthday thread as I promised!
love2shop 04-19-2005, 09:58 PM 35 :-[ I really stopped counting at 30, I hate that I don't even carded anymore. Sigh..........
But Happy Birthday peanutbutter.... I hope you had a good one!
Quiksilver13oi 04-20-2005, 01:13 AM 17 years old, just the tip of the first group. power to the teens!
Aurora10 04-20-2005, 01:16 AM ::gasp:: I'm late!!! Happy belated Birthday PB! ::hugs::

PhillyGirl2873 04-20-2005, 01:33 PM I thought there would be more teens. I guess I'm over the hump, and over the hill at 32.
Siesta 04-20-2005, 03:15 PM I am 23...woo hoo, I am not included in the 19-22 age group on this poll!!!
LostCSIFan 04-20-2005, 10:24 PM I thought there would be more teens.* I guess I'm over the hump, and over the hill at 32.
Hey Now I"m 32 and I dont feel old at all
peanutbutter101 04-21-2005, 12:07 AM Thank you to all who wished me a happy birthday. I, indeed, had a very...interesting birthday party in the birthday party thread and I had fun.
mandyox 04-21-2005, 03:00 AM Just an observation I've made:
41-50 age group: 30
13-17 age group: 33
It's cool that LOST spans to every age group! There should be a -13 group: My 9 year old sister watches as well!
For the record, I'm 16.
WhiteSapphire 04-23-2005, 09:41 AM There should be a -13 group: My 9 year old sister watches as well!
But you have to be 13 to join this site, so she wouldn't be able to vote. :(
Hiram 04-23-2005, 01:16 PM WS is right.
I have thought about that senario, where a member's child, sibling or whatever might
wish to vote. But the way the Poll is set-up, only one vote can be cast from the same usernumber.
Therefore, you and your sister could not both vote!
mandyox 04-23-2005, 03:27 PM I thought they were trying to figure the demographics of LOST watchers, not users of this site. Guess I was wrong.
pcfrost232 04-23-2005, 07:16 PM The age range in our house runs from 13 (my grandson) to 48 (myself) and all of us are Lost addicts! The 4/20 epi was pre-empted for a King's game (the nerve of those bball fans!) where I am so I have a new to me epi set for tomorrow @ 4pm! Our whole afternoon is planned around it. A Sunday with a Lost flashback or a even a re-run epi is better than one without!* *:jump:
WhiteSapphire 04-24-2005, 09:38 AM I thought they were trying to figure the demographics of LOST watchers, not users of this site.* Guess I was wrong.
We can also determine the statistics of the people on this site. That's our sample size. We have no way of knowing about all of the people that don't have internet or whatever.
LastNovember 04-24-2005, 05:54 PM I'm in the lowest age group myself, seems the forum at least is most populated by the 20-29 year olds or so. But seeing the huge range...looks like I've got plenty of time to be a "squee-ing fangirl" WAHOO!
CharliesGal 04-25-2005, 08:53 PM Yay! My group is winning! Go us!
bri_nic23 04-30-2005, 11:08 AM 23+ ers are great!
In concur.
being 25 myself.
juleyah 05-28-2005, 06:34 AM I turned 18 in January, so I guess I'm in the 18-22 group for a while :)
