The ring, for one. Probably other various keepsakes like photos, etc.

The engagement ring, along with other keepsakes presumably. Nothing he wants to keep at this point though.

Agree that the ring was the important thing in the box, but why would he bury the ring under the floorboards? That just seemed ridiculous.

He was waiting for the right moment to propose, and didn't want her finding it hidden in his sock drawer (remember Horace's drunken dynamite night?). So he hid the ring under loose floorboard.

This is Sawyer we're talking about. He likes burying things below where he sleeps.

:71: Like the rest of you, I think the ring was in there but would have loved to see what else was in there. We probably won't though.

It looked like he was clutching a piece of cloth or something...

I could've been imagining it, though.

I saw it too. I imagine it'll be important, whatever it was. I didn't recognize it.

I thought that too, when he was going through the box. Then when we saw him at the dock with the ring, I thought back and assumed it was one of those black velvet bags that you get to hold jewelry. That the ring was in the bag (or the cloth we saw him holding) in the box.

I've been thinking about why he buried it in the floor board - remember his last days with Juliet were pretty frightful - he was tring to keep Jack, Kate, Hurley and Sayid under wraps - trying to keep Radzinsky from finding out about them - so I can imagine him trying to hide the things that were important to him in the floor.

enigma420 is cracking my butt up today!!!

I just re-watched the scene. There doesn't seem to be much else in the box except the ring, wrapped in some kind of cloth. Also, the box disappears between Sawyer taking out the ring and standing up to point the gun at Kate.

Another reason he could have hid it under the floor was in case he timetravelled again he would be able to find it. If he just hid it in a drawer or something it probably wouldn't still be there in the future. Sawyer knew he timetravelled before, and may have been preparing for it happening again.

Looked to me almost like the black bag that the stolen diamonds were in. I remember they tossed the diamonds in the grave, but did they toss the bag? I can't remember.

Yeah, that's what I saw. A black satin bag. Didnt see the ring until later when he chucked it into the lake.

That's good thinking. :)

I was thinking it was like lingerie or something, lol!

Don't forget that from a storytelling standpoint, it had to be somewhere where the Others wouldn't find it after living in the barracks for 12 years from 1992 - 2004.

But that's from a writer's standpoint, not a character's.

Truer words were never spoken (written?). I just wonder who he swiped it from.

Indeed, never spotted a jewelry-store on-island. The only one we saw during the last years was owned by Eloise.

Oh WOW! I totally forgot about that episode - it's the one with Nicki and Paulo and the spider bite - they were buried alive!! Expose!! Right!! He poured the diamonds over Nicki's body I believe and then they buried the two of them.

He could have slipped one in his pocket for funsies! Just to say he still got to keep one!

Good memory TCP!

Even if he pocketed a diamond just who the heck is the Dharma jeweler that put it in a ring? Dharma arts and crafts I guess.

Exactly. I have no idea why people can't wrap their brains around the concept that Dharma employees could request something to be delivered on the sub excursions. They get paid reasonably well too, established by Roger in 3x20.

I think what's important about this box is not what's in it...but the fact that it mirrors perfectly Kate/Tom box....burried under a tree...we know that Kate loved Tom and that she's responsible for a death....we also know that Sawyer loved Juliet and feels responsible for a death...

About Jewelry on island, the only thing i can say is that there was a gemologist in the Dharma crew:

Exactly, Sawyer had access to a bag full of diamonds and said to himself, "Hey, I think I'll swipe the smallest, crappiest stone of this whole lot, just in case I ever fall in love while time traveling and want to propose! Darn I'm handsome!"

When he threw the ring into the water, all I could think about was Desmond throwing Penny's ring into the water...I don't know if they're related or just a waste of good jewlery.

Like the folks in the AU, I had deja vu.
