View Full Version : The difference in Dharmaville
DPro2270 02-18-2010, 12:00 AM Ok, so back in season 5, a lot of people noticed that when Sun and Frank then later Ben and Locke go to the barracks, they are filled with Dharma signage and most, if not all, windows are boarded up. Some people (myself included) claimed that we were seeing a different area of the barracks that had not been seen before. Other people insisted that it was proof the past could be changed.
This was proven false when Ben and Locke enter the barracks, Ben goes to his old house, proving that it's the same area. There were still Dharma signs and boarded windows.
Now what's really puzzling (and honestly, frustrating) is that we've seen the barracks twice in season 6 so far, and there hasn't been a single board on a window nor a single Dharma sign. The area looks exactly like it should at the end of season 4.
So what gives? Any thoughts?
beema 02-18-2010, 12:55 AM and yet Sawyer listens to a record on a turntable that's probably been sitting around there since Dharma had occupied the house.
I don't know man, don't know at all.
I think all those things in S5 happened for plot convenience more than anything.
The show is really glossing over the details lately, and there have been worse offenders than this.
LostFan21617 02-18-2010, 06:34 AM Speaking of Sawyer and the turntable... who has been paying the power company all this time? *LOL*

I believe one of the orientation videos mentions using geothermal power.
rocker 02-18-2010, 08:16 AM I don't know much about geothermal power, but does no one have to sheck it once in a while? I kind of thought it was as much about the lyric's of the Stooges song as anything.
NBC001 02-18-2010, 09:29 AM Here's a screen cap of Ben's house (http://www.losttalk.net/gallery/fullpicture_78023_o.html) from last season. I don't see any boarded up windows, not even the broken one that Sawyer carried Claire through after Keamy's attack on the Barracks.
There was only one building shown last season with the boarded up windows and that was at the Dharma Welcome Center. The only other house we saw was Ben's and it looks to me to be the same way it was as when they left it in 2004.
The Swan Hatch still had a turntable and albums in it in 2004 that the Losties used so why is it so unbeliveable that they could still have them in the houses at the Barracks?

Ben said it was a few Giant hamsters;)
Seriously, this did puzzle me last year. Especially if you take into consideration, the fixed window that Claire was carried through.
One thing totally off-topic other than mystery repairs.
In The Man Behind the Curtain,
Ben takes a Lantern off of a hook and enters cabin.
While inside, the lantern was smashed into pieces.
Ben exits and hangs the lantern on the hook.
"That was Jacob"
Actually, it was MiB but what WTF with the Lantern.
The Islands healing properties effect glass as well as flesh.

The window isn't fixed it's just not boarded up. If you look at the screencap you can see that the drapes are hanging outside of the window.

In fact the ottoman that Hurley threw out the window is still there.
"The Shape of Things to Come"
[The door pounds with a kicking sound. Hurley lifts a large comfy ottoman and chucks it through the front window. Sawyer runs to it and deposits Claire inside, handing her to Hurley.]

Because the Sawn was more or less sealed off from the outside world for 30 years. Kind of like a time capsule. The Barracks were not.

If I remember correctly, if you watch that scene in slow motion, after the lantern breaks it starts a fire. You then see Locke's face, looking at the fire, which then seems to magically go out, with Locke looking surprised/confused.
Too me it seemed like time ran backwards for a bit.

In 2004 when Juliet was living in barracks she listened to vinyl record in her house on old turntable!
Aphasia_1 02-21-2010, 12:15 PM My question/observation in regards to the barracks would be this: How in the world did the houses get so dilapidated in the span of 3 years? Why are the walls basically rotting?
The shot when Sawyer goes back to his old house makes it seem that noone has lived there for 30 years, yet the Others were holding book clubs and everything seemed so pristine and perfect.
I know Keamy's crew came in and blew some houses up, but not all of them. Those houses looked like they had been abandoned for far longer than 3 years.
Continuity error?
UnklBob 02-21-2010, 12:23 PM Holes in the walls at Sawyer's place as shown in this ep weren't from rotting, he had trashed it in anger over his loss of Juliet.

No, the walls were discolored and looked like there was perhaps black/green mold on the walls. I'm not talking about the holes.
DPro2270 02-26-2010, 11:42 PM Ok I guess not ALL the windows are boarded up. But there are at least 2 separate buildings that are boarded, and the building that Christian comes out of (NOT the processing center) has a Dharma sign on it. I'm just saying, its a little fishy to suddenly introduce two brand new buildings with boards and Dharma signs that weren't in the past 2 seasons.

Are there any screencaps ?
