In the movie Primer, the main characters build a box that is "shielded" from the universe. In the same way the Lost island is. The Primer Characters go forward in time and then back wards about 1300 times. Now the characters in Primer decide to step out of the box after going to the future, therefore making two copies of themselves. One of the characters then takes a box and puts it in the another box and makes a copy. In this way you can make multiple boxes. Like how a cell reproduces. The Island does the same thing and we have now seen that there are two copies of people, on island and off island.
We also have seen this in the Rabbits that go into a box and then there are 2 rabbits. Dharma is performing the experiment on a smaller level.

From reading this post it just seems like you ddn't get Primer :D, don't worry, neither did i till about the 5th watch.
A few problems with the comparison:
In the Primer box you feel time, but time is self-contained and whatever point in (earth)time you enter the box is the point in time you will leave. This is why they had the 15 min timer, turning the box on 15 mins before they went near it, ensured that their 6-hour older self had time to leave.
On the island time on and off moves at the same pace. for example the 108 days they were on the island before leaving on the freighter was the same length of time that passed in the outside world.

Hi, I am drawing a comparison not a literally translation. Also I thought time did not pass the same rate as evidence by the body washing up one shore with the throat slit and Faradays Rocket Experiments.
