Asher is the candidate n°25, Asher is the name of one of Jacob's son...

Asher (Hebrew (file:///wiki/Hebrew_language): אָשֵׁר, Modern (file:///wiki/Hebrew_language#Modern_Hebrew) Ašer Tiberian (file:///wiki/Tiberian_vocalization) ʾĀšēr), in the Book of Genesis (file:///wiki/Book_of_Genesis), is the second son of Jacob (file:///wiki/Jacob) and Zilpah (file:///wiki/Zilpah), and the founder of the Tribe (file:///wiki/Hebrew_tribe) of Asher (file:///wiki/Tribe_of_Asher). He was born on the 20th of Shevat (file:///wiki/Shevat) 2199 (1562 BCE). According to some accounts 20th of Shevat is also the date of his passing.
Ashar is also a place in Israel (file:///wiki/Israel).

Even more interesting...

From after the conquest of the land by Joshua until the formation of the first Kingdom of Israel (file:///wiki/Kingdom_of_Israel_(united_kingdom)) in c. 1050 BC (file:///wiki/1050_BC), the Tribe of Asher was a part of a loose confederation of Israelite tribes. No central government existed, and in times of crisis the people were led by ad hoc leaders known as Judges (file:///wiki/Biblical_judges). (see the Book of Judges (file:///wiki/Book_of_Judges)) With the growth of the threat from Philistine incursions, the Israelite tribes decided to form a strong centralized monarchy to meet the challenge, and the Tribe of Asher joined the new kingdom with Saul (file:///wiki/Saul) as the first king. After the death of Saul, all the tribes other than Judah remained loyal to the House of Saul, and followed his son Ish-bosheth (file:///wiki/Ish-bosheth), [5] (http://forum.thefuselage.com/showthread.php?p=2289579#cite_note-4) but after Ish-bosheth's death, the Tribe of Asher joined the other northern Israelite tribes in making David (file:///wiki/David), who was then the king of Judah, king of a re-united Kingdom of Israel.

According to the Torah (file:///wiki/Torah), the tribe consisted of descendants of Asher (file:///wiki/Asher) the eighth son of Jacob (file:///wiki/Jacob), from whom it took its name.

And here is something awesome...

So, 1st thing you need to know is that Marc Pelligrino (the actor playing Jacob) was an acting teacher of mine. Next thing to know is that my last name is 'Asher'... so needless to say, when I saw Asher as #25 on Jacob's lighthouse wheel I was totally psyched. Though after thinking it over, I think I got shafted. I'm cool enough to have made Jacob's list - but apparently not important enough to be a candidate. If I ever see Marc/Jacob again, I think I will have to let him know that I object to that evaluation.

P.S. Asher also means happiness in Hebrew.

What I think is more interesting is what you pointed out with the second article...David reunites the divided kingdoms...interesting.

I caught Asher too. A name only familiar to me before from rehearsing a choir member friend in the words to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Thanks for the links, makes the interweb that bit smaller when somebody else does the legwork.

I found out today thereisnospoon, that a man I've been harboring for the last 10 months was at Hogwarts and never told me! Typical bloody Slytherin. lol
