Do we have any reason to believe Locke is a liar?

View Full Version : ''I always do what I say'' fatalflu 03-03-2010, 07:00 AM Do we have any reason to believe Locke is a liar? rocker 03-03-2010, 07:07 AM No, we don't. We are supposed to think he is, but with Lost who knows. I don't think either one of them is good at this point. nancy 03-03-2010, 07:08 AM I think he means that he always does what he says he is going to do, and that might be so. But, yes, we have many, many examples of his lying about many other things. IMNotA#4815162342 03-03-2010, 07:09 AM I think he means that he always does what he says he is going to do, and that might be so. But, yes, we have many, many examples of his lying about many other things. Just off the top of my head, he told Claire that the Others had Aaron. NBC001 03-03-2010, 01:14 PM He certainly didn't do what he told Sun he would do. LOCKE: Hello, everyone. My name is John Locke. I've been told that... [sighs] for some time, you all have been accepting orders from a man named Jacob. And yet, oddly enough, it seems that no one has actually seen him. Now I'm s "Dead is Dead" LOCKE: Good. [To Sun] Stay here. We'll be back in a couple of hours. I'll see what I can find out. But whatever happens, Sun, you have my word--if there's a way for you and Jin to be together again, if there's a way to save our people... I'll find it. "Follow the Leader" LOCKE: I'm not interested in being reunited with my people. BEN: What do you mean? You told Sun-- LOCKE: I know what I told her, but that's not why we're going to Jacob. Pink Human 03-03-2010, 03:12 PM Well, if we get a scene with Flocke's pants on fire, we'll know for sure. LadybirdKate 03-03-2010, 06:09 PM Well, if we get a scene with Flocke's pants on fire, we'll know for sure. LMAO!! Nice. :21: I think they will both lie to get what they want...but Jacob (with his name actually meaning Deceiver) to me is the more frightening of the two evils. One is obvious...the other is not. Also...not placing bets until we hear and see what in the hell made MIB..the MIB! Two sides to every tale... iklimon 03-03-2010, 06:41 PM LMAO!! Nice. :21: I think they will both lie to get what they want...but Jacob (with his name actually meaning Deceiver) to me is the more frightening of the two evils. One is obvious...the other is not.. What if the final battle is between two evils with no good in sight? -ik beema 03-03-2010, 06:57 PM Just off the top of my head, he told Claire that the Others had Aaron. This is the most blatant one I can think of. The rest have been sort of general misleadings as opposed to flat-out lies. I can't really believe that he would hold good on his word to Sayid either (I also don't get how Sayid would possibly buy something so far-fetched, but maybe his mind is super-open now that he's died and come back to life?). They are certainly making Flocke out to be the stranger with a silver tongue trickster. Very blatantly. Almost too blatantly at this point. I can't decide whether they are going to pull the obvious twist on us and make him the good guy, or make it seem like they are going to do that and have him be bad after all. Jacob has been practicing many deceptions over the years, but his are much less obvious than the MiB's. Fits with the characters though. MiB strikes me as a to-the-point kind of guy. What if the final battle is between two evils with no good in sight? -ik I like the theories people have been floating out there that maybe the point is both Jacob and the MiB aren't so great, and the real "destiny" for the Losties is that they need to break free of both influences, and pave their own paths. I would definitely prefer an ending like that. Darlton's podcasts have somewhat convinced me that this wont be happening though :( hopefully, they are full of it CaduceusRex 03-05-2010, 01:56 AM Just off the top of my head, he told Claire that the Others had Aaron. Plus, if indeed Christian Shepherd has been MiB all along, he's lied to her twice, (she said her father and her friend told her) three times if you consider; the fact that he's pretending to be her Father is also a pretty major lie. woland 03-05-2010, 03:11 AM Another lie I can think of, besides passing himself off as John Locke is telling people he is leaving the island and taking his followers with him. I have no doubt he knows a way off of the island I think ultimately he is self interested and will leave his followers at best stranded on the island or at worst dead. I have no doubt he knows a way off of the island I think ultimately he is self interested and will leave his followers at best stranded on the island or at worst dead. But what point do his followers serve then, if he's just going to leave them on the Island? He obviously doesn't need them for protection. This is one of my favorite mysteries in the series ever. Why does the MiB even need that many people on his side? And then I saw that my question is a whole other thread. I think, at this point, neither Jacob nor Not-Locke are looking too great right now. I'm completely reserving my judgment. Lost, I bow down to thee - I have no idea.:allhail: woland 03-05-2010, 01:32 PM But what point do his followers serve then, if he's just going to leave them on the Island? He obviously doesn't need them for protection. This is one of my favorite mysteries in the series ever. Why does the MiB even need that many people on his side? And then I saw that my question is a whole other thread. Probably because there are certain things he can't do. He couldn't kill Jacob so he got Ben to. He couldn't kill Dogen so he convinced Sayid to do the deed. He has certain limitations. He can't kill any of the candidates but that doesn't mean he can't get his followers to do it. Avius 03-05-2010, 01:38 PM I wonder if Adam and Eve committed suicide. I wonder if they were candidates. bockset 03-05-2010, 03:13 PM He certainly didn't do what he told Sun he would do.
