There's a couple other threads close to this, and if it needs to be merged by all means...

But I was actually kind of touched by Ben's actions in this episode. He goes back to get Sayid rather than leave him there to presumably get killed. Almost like their time together off island had impacted Ben into almost thinking he was a friend.

Of course, there's a bit of a gap from when we last saw Ilana's crew, so she could have filled them in on what's going on with the candidates, etc. And we might find this out soon... but for now, and at least until the next episode I'll choose to believe Ben was being a decent human being for a change.

A few side notes:
- too bad Sayid had already gone crazy, this was their first interaction since Sayid shot young Ben in the past.
- Ben's look when Sayid said "Not for me" was classic, and when he bolts out of there, even though it was a pretty intense scene made me laugh. Ben's basically saying... Oooook... so you're nuts. Gotta GO!

He obviously loved Juliet and loved Alex. To me his bad actions were not more bad than the losties ones!

I felt the same way. There was real pathos in that short scene. Ben actually came back to get someone and help them escape! And it was the person who tried to kill him as a child. I think Ben thought of Sayid as an actual friend.
But when Sayid declined, Ben was off like a shot. He'd tried, and he sensed danger so he wisely split.

Didn't mean to imply there hasn't been moments in the past that he's shown this side... but you gotta admit, they can be few and far between.

I think he's realized that he's been a pawn for the wrong side and is now trying to correct things somewhat.
