It would have been cool to see her. But I can totally imagine Danielle working two jobs to support her family.

My guess is they never went to the island...my assumption (and you know what happens when you assume) was that Ben and Roger left at point close to when the island sinks/the incident (?). However, Alex's biological dad didn't seem to be around...

Probably Danielle and the mother of David Shephard are both away spending some quality time together at Mr Friendly's house.

I can see Danielle and Alex not being on the Island because it is underwater, I can see them living in L.A. (somehow?), but "my mom has to work two jobs to pay the rent?" Wha...? Why would Danielle, who was on a science team, now be a struggling single mother? I assume Alex has the same father since she is who she is, but what in the past could have changed Danielle so drastically.?

If Alex were raised in the states she wouldn't really have an accent. Not to mention that I get the feeling that Robert didn't quite make it to LA...

Perhaps Danielle emigrated to the United States only to find that they don't recognize the degree she got from whatever European institution? I see that sort of thing on television all the time (Indian cab drivers and whatnot), but I'm not sure how true to life it is.

Also, I suppose Danielle could have been working on some controversial stuff and been blackballed from the scientific community. If you can't get someone to fund your research, then you can't be much of a scientist!

Both of these possibilities are a stretch, but they're possible. Since I seriously doubt that Danielle's alt storyline will be explored any further, theories like this will have to do. ;)

Maybe because she called him Dr Linus instead of Dad. Also, he treated her like a prized student and not a beloved daughter.

This was the idea I took away from the fact that Danielle had been working two jobs. It happens frequently in real-life as well. Like the Turksih scientists that moved to Canada so that their daughter could get excellent figure skating lessons and compete in the Olympics. They both had to work low-paying jobs for several years - a couple of jobs a piece in order to finance their move and the lessons. In fact, one of the Olympic sponsors financed their trip to Vancouver to actually see their daughter compete in person instead of on TV like they had to do during the last Olympics.

Ben was never Alex's biological dad. He merely "adopted" her after she was taken from Rousseau. Not to mention, if Ben was Alex's dad in the ALT timeline, one would think Alex would look different considering she'd have a completely different genetic makeup from a different father.

I remember reading that the actress who plays Danielle couldn't return for some reason. No bother, the alt story panned out perfectly without her. But it would have been fun to see her again.
