I don't quite buy that the smokey we've seen in all seasons = MIB/Flocke. Because, why would MIB listen / capitulate to Ben when he summons him? It doesn't make any sense.

It's just confusing still... i don't think that we have any answers about the smoke monster yet.

I think there is reason to believe that there is more than one smoke monster.

-Eko and Locke saw two different things (Locke: "I saw a bright light" Eko "that is not what I saw")
-Ben can summon a smoke monster.
-MIB is a smoke monster but is also powerful enough to THINK ben out of his ankle tether, can't get killed by bullets/stabbing, is one of two people/things that have the ultimate knowledge about everything. I doubt he would obey Ben. (ben drains the little puddle "I'll be waiting outside")

Even though Ben said he was summoning smokie all he really did was pull that "plug" in that sewer looking thing under his house.

I thought it was more like opening the lion's cage at the zoo. You can pretend he comes out because you summoned him, but all you really did was give him an opening and nature took it's course.

Smokie was probably always looking to wreak havoc just needed to be free to do it. Though it does look like flocke controls it or is it now.

Maybe Smoky can't stand water, and the water is used to keep him at bay. A reason he can't leave the island, and a reason Ben needed to "drain the sewer" to release him.

I like that notion but the "I'll wait outside" line makes Ben and Smokie seem like pals. Also suggests a nice big moat would have been pretty helpful around the camp; if smokie can't go OVER a sonic fence, he probably can't go over WATER either?? Which makes not one lick of sense.. since he was gonna meet ben at the other island that seems to not exist for several episodes at a time.. or he can go under water but not over..

Oh, to heck with the unspecified "rules". I need a smidgeon of real science WHY.. they aren't rules of physics, they seem to be rules imposed by somebody..

It is Myst isn't it? Two brothers, banished by Dad, both are evil, don't trust the "good" guy, make your own destiny. The magic writing and "linking book" magic in Myst could explain every plothole in this series.

Recall that after saying that, Ben went outside, explained to Sun that he's waiting for "someone I have absolutely no control over", and then Flocke walks out of the woods.

I think the travel-over-water restriction applies to Smokey only when he isn't in a body. We already saw that Flocke traveled by boat with Ben from Hydra Island to the main island after Ajira 316 crashed.
