I know somebody had to have brought this up but search isn't helping me.
MiB is searching for a replacement as well. He told Ben he couldn't think of a better person to take MiB's place when the latter left the island. Or am I remembering that wrong?
I don't think Ben had any idea what MiB was saying about him, but, wow, he'd have to feel pretty bad about that if he did.

Did he say that? I do remember him saying that someone would need to run the Island after he left...

Flocke's throwing **** against the wall and hoping something sticks. First, he tells Sawyer that the Island is "just an Island" and doesn't need protecting and then he tells Ben that he would be the best choice to manage the place. What Flocke really wanted was for Ben to shoot Ilana right between the eyes and remove the threat-something he couldn't do on his own.

I don't know. I took it as he wanted Ben to become the new Smokey. Jacob needs a replacement, there are rules, and when I heard Flocke say that, it made sense. The little "I can't think of a better person" statement is what tipped me off.
Who's going to become MiB now?

Well, I agree that a certain balance needs to be present on the Island to ward off chaos. Perhaps the MIB needs a substitute (he's the constant) and Jacob needs a candidate or successor (he's the variable)?

That was my read too.
