I don't think we'll ever know who her husband is.

I doubt she will appear again, given the short time we have left, and so I would tend to doubt that she is anything to do with Cooper.

If it was Cooper, Sawyer would have by passed LAPD (and maybe her) and gone after Cooper himself. He was still searching names after that scene. If LADP had her in custody, he would have been talking to her.

Though I'm not really sure why getting laid is part of his job...

It seems to be part of James Bond's, so....

I think it was just to scooby-doo us into thinking we're seeing the same old con, then hit us with the Lafleur twist that he was a cop.

Add in this little production related (rather than mythological) easter egg:
We've seen Sawyer previously pull this con on Cassidy, and :5:Jodi Lynn O'Keefe:8: who played the mark in Recon, used to play a character named Cassidy on Nash Bridges, which was produced by:
Carlton Cuse.

Plus, one might even say she was a substitute Cassidy, and the last time we saw James was in the episode The Substitute.

Okay, that's a stretch but seems like the kind of thing you'd hear in a podcast letter. with the notion they were onto something.

I think this is a very good question, and some of the answers have been way too dismissive.

For all we know (and for all Sawyer knows), the husband may be the man who conned Sawyer's mom ... , he could have changed his name (as we know from the island narrative, Locke's father changed his name a lot), so he may not be calling himself 'anthony cooper' anymore.

It also provides a more important justification for the scene (than seeing Sawyer half naked), Sawyer is trying to catch con men BECAUSE one of them might be the man who conned his mom.

 I knew I had a reason for asking. Certainly his motivation for everything in his life, good and bad. Truth be told I think that would be a great 'gotcha' or a pretty good
'question' for the writers to leave us with, either very obvious or not addressed at all.
