you could certainly start by stating why he is not convincing* or why you dont
believe the character is being portrayed well.

Actually I think Walt's deadpan demeanor is part of his character and is important to the plot. It's not that Malcolm can't emote, it's that Walt is not supposed to show much emotion. JMHO

The comment about Walt not being cute actually indicates what a good actor Malcolm is.* Television has been littered with hundreds of child actors who look cute and say cute things, and guess what -- that isn't real acting.* Real acting consists of displaying a wide range of emotions believably, which Malcolm does.* Fortunately the people in the industry recognize this, and it shows up in the fact that Malcolm has been nominated for awards in every role he has played on TV or in film.

This is a big industry problem, so big that viewers like this one have come to expect all kids on TV to be cute. I commend the writers/producers of "Lost," who did not feel pressured to cast some cutie who can't act. On the other hand, I think Malcolm IS cute. He may not be society's version of a cute kid but, he is cute, nonetheless.

In all seriousness, I think Malcolm is a really cute kid. He can act too? He's got it going on, I say. If only the little girls, who I'm sure would be fan-girling away in here if they could, were old enough to register at the Fuselage. I'm sure Malcolm would be competing with Sawyer on post count.:)

I disagree. I think Walt is very cute. :) And Malcolm David Kelly does a great job. :biggrin: And you don't have to be cute to be a good actor. That is not important. Even though He is adorable. He is good, and I don't know why you think he is not good.

Pretty lame topic but since I am here at 1 in the morning I would just like to add that my 12 year old daughter thinks Malcom/Walt is cute. Opionions like hers should be the only ones that count as far as a little boys looks go. I think? Maybe I will change my mind in the morning.
