If the goal is to keep MIB from leaving why not just blow up the plane?

Blowing up the plane will only slow him down. MIB will find a way to get off the Island as long as he is alive (in whatever sense that he is alive)

What I'm saying is that he needs to be killed for Widmore's mission to be accomplished.

And I imagine he's killed by being thrown into a pocket of electromagnetic energy, which is why they were trying to find pockets around the island.

cause that would be too easy

How do you kill a smoke monster? Don't those pockets of EME on the island connect to similar pockets all around the world? At least that's what Eloise said.

I don't think you can kill him, only contain him.

MIB/Flocke has given many hints that he CAN, in fact, be killed.

"It's either kill or be killed. And I don't want to be killed."

Maybe he's using it as bait.

I think he can be killed too, but it's going to take a special set of circumstances. He seems immune to conventional methods.

Maybe Widmore's stated goal to Jin wasn't the whole truth. I mean, just because he says he's there to stop the man in black, doesn't mean we should start trusting him. To quote Sawyer"

"Oh yea, let's trust this guy!"

I think we can say that we've finally caught the man in black in an outright lie tho.

Telling Claire she wasn't a name in the cave. And that Claire wasn't either. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Screencaps prove otherwise Mr. Smocke.

From the dialogue tonight I kinda gathered that the plane or the sub aren't as important as killing off the candidates in order for Flocke to leave. If there are no more candidates then I think he can get off of the island.

He probably doesn't need a boat or plane or sub.

Though he has a boat, a plane and a submarine to choose from.

Let's not forget the Elizabeth should still be somewhere in the possession of the Others. Desmond's boat from season's two and three. The Other's comandeered it and then we haven't seen it again.

I know I haven't forgotten about it.

I didn't see it that way. He was merely referring to the fact that their names were crossed out -- that is, no longer relevant. I deduce this by him saying Kate's name was not on the wall "anymore."

Claire's name was crossed out. So for all intents and purposes, it is not on the wall, as compared to the people who are not crossed out.

I don't think that the plane, sub, or boat are his means of leaving the island. His means of leaving the island are killing all of the candidates, who are containing him there. The plane or sub is just a tool that he's using to get the candidates in one place and find a way to kill them.

I think you've got that exactly right. It was Jacob's existence containing Smokey/MIB on the island. The white stone kept the balance with the black stone, light vs. dark, good vs. evil, so to speak. If a canidate replaces Jacob's existence then Smokey/Flocke remains contained on the island.

Maybe because the plane doesn't matter anymore.
