Great seeing him, but he looked pretty dead. The sideways is an alternative timeline, one where everyone has small or great differences in their past as well as their present. So this is not how he lost his eye in the timeline we all know and love him in.

I guess his right eye had a destiny also. And not a good one.

I was wondering that, too. I can't remember-- did we ever learn how Mikhail lost his eye before (in island-timeline)?

It might be tied into the whole appendix phenomenon - where injuries in one timeline seem to be transposed onto the other. In Season 5, I pointed out that Locke got shot in the leg by Ethan while climbing up those roots to get to the aircraft... back in Season 1, his leg mysteriously cramped up in exactly the same place. I think those incidents were connected, and if injuries can be perpetuated across time, why not across timelines?

Interesting injury theories. It always has been weird that Locke just randomly cramped up in Deus Ex Machina.

How about the excellent Donnie Darko connection. We see the "masked" guy throughout one universe. See him fine then get the injury requiring him to be "masked" in the original universe.

Nice to see Mickhael again, I'd been waiting for him to show up in the FS. His part was too short though. Maybe in the great Mickael tradition, he will be back. Like the thing that wouldn't leave.

Mikhail is the stubborn tomato! I think he's still alive and will be coming from the alt universe to the original universe.
