View Full Version : Thanks a lot, buddy.
LilMissRabbit 03-31-2010, 12:52 AM Anyone else startled by Sayid's attitude in the alt? I know he just shot some guys, but he seemed totally without compassion when he left Jin tied up. It seemed more like how his new on-Island zombie self would act rather than the compassionate Sayid we love.
Avius 03-31-2010, 12:53 AM Considering Jin was a witness to murder, I think he did the best he could under the circumstances. He could have just killed him.
Briolette 03-31-2010, 12:56 AM I was totally freaked out when Jin indicated the box-cutter to Sayid... and Keamy's "Arab" comment...

agree
killed have just killed him... hehehe, I think you meant "could"
too much killing on your brain!
Sayid just shot three guys dead. He didn't know Jin's relation to the dead guys, and he surely didn't know if he could trust Jin not to tell the police about him.
Sayid needed to get out of there pronto.
LilMissRabbit 03-31-2010, 01:02 AM But leaving him the box cutters means Jin could get out and tell the cops... if the NOT DEAD KEAMY didn't beat him to it. It's not like Sayid made much of an effort to clean up the crime scene anyway.
It doesn't seem like Sayid cared whether he got out or not. It's this lack of caring one way or the other that disturbs me.
Maculate Initiative 03-31-2010, 03:11 AM It seems to be mirroring Sayid's transformation on the island. Which worries me for what he will do in the sideways. He seemed on more of a MIB-like 9 on the evil scale as opposed to a more Sayid-like 7 for his usually half-way justified murders.
Could this be part of MIB's plan at all? Through Sayid infect the world with evil or that he is an example of what he is doing?
I guess I am more in the MIB is the good guy as opposed to Jacob or at least the lesser of two evils, so I don't think he wants to infect the world really. However, it seems probable that he might no care about mass murder if it gets him his freedom. I don't see murder as his goal though, just collateral damage so to speak.
lostnadream 03-31-2010, 03:58 AM What I took away from that scene was confirmation of what I suspected during his scenes with Nadia in Sundown. He told her he couldn't be with her because he didn't deserve her, that for the last 12 years he'd been trying to wash his hands of all the horrible things he'd done. But his instinctual reflexes when he took out Keamy and his henchman were not the actions of someone who'd turned his back on violence. I think his pushing Nadia toward his brother was what he felt was his only way to keep her close, because he was continuing to live a violent life. I"m just amazed he didn't kill Jin--I was holding my breath the whole time Sayid and Jim were together in the walk-in. I just knew he was going to kill him. Maybe the fact that he didn't act the "cleaner" and left himself vulnerable speaks to some positive 'ripples' from the 'Island Sayid' that we've yet to see. I hope so, because I grieve for the infected Sayid.
LostMyMarbles 03-31-2010, 09:07 AM I thought Sayid's behavior was perfectly logical. He knew nothing about Jin, was never going to get any information out of him, didn't want to kill him. But if he had just cut Jin loose, Jin could have turned on him immediately or followed him home to Nadia, Omer and the kids--so Sayid would have been right back where he started. Leaving Jin tied up but able to (eventually) free himself was the perfect compromise, enabling Sayid to make a clean getaway before Jin could follow him.
Michaud 03-31-2010, 01:59 PM Sayid's always been pretty cold, even before he was 'claimed'. He may have changed a little in the FS, but not enough to have stopped him acting logically (see above posts) in that situation.
evanesco75 03-31-2010, 02:41 PM I agree with Michaud. Sayid wasn't ever ultra compassionate. Human, and pragmatic describes him better, IMO.
Besides, he gave Jin the means to free himself. Worked out, except for the Sun getting shot bit.
For me, it mirrored S3, and the GB epi, where Sayid, Sun and Jin worked together. Nice. I know some find them gratitutous, but I'm liking the crossing of these guys in the sideways, especially when situations mirror earlier ones.

And I say that as a massive fan of both Sayid and Naveen! :)
