I'm kind of thankful for that. When I suggested to Myha (before we knew what this event was) that it might be a prescreening, she pointed out that, given that it's the same weekend as LW, they'd have a hall full of bloggers and forum posters. People would be dropping spoilerbombs from their iPhones. And with half the 'Lage mods right there in the hall, it could be some serious problem!

sorry, gonna have to butt in here because that just cracked me up! Made me think about the Defcon system and the Joint Chiefs of Staff. There's a reason all the important people are not allowed to be in the same room, at the same time. ;)

Just wondering, did you get an email saying that they had shipped before you received it?

Yukailin, do you know if there is a close place to drop people off near Royce Hall. I think golo has a ticket, but she's going to be on crutches. I don't know if she can handle a long hike across campus on crutches. Thanks!

Oh, you beat me to the question... I was wondering the same thing. Is there a side entrance?

MADGE: Please let me know where you park, so I can get dropped off near your car. Thanks!

*blushes*

Awww, thanks for thinking of me. I will make do however it turns out. I might try to just use my walking boot and leave the crutches in a car since I'm not really sure where I'll be able to keep my crutches so that they'll be out of other people's way. It depends on what the doctor says next Monday. If I do have to hike a bit, that shouldn't be a problem as long as I have enough time to go slowly.... ;)

I've only been there once, and that was a few years ago. You may have to do the whole puppy dog eyes at the parking people to ask about a drop off point and then back to finding parking. The campus is relatively ADA friendly, but it's also quite big, so while there may not be much of a hill or anything for her to navigate, there might be distance.

As for knowing where someone is going to park in advance, that probably won't be possible. When ever I drive past UCLA on Sunset (the side you come in from to get to Royce) I see the Event Parking people waving people in from at least two different locations, and since the campus should be open to students and classes will be open, some of the lots will already be in normal use. So, while P5 is the closest, it may not be fully open when you arrive. Texting or leaving messages is the best way, or meeting up at the Box office and then going back to the cars might be the only option.

Do that many students have cars? Our colleges will all have graduated this weekend. Perhaps some students will leave early? I can't image it being that full.

Spring quarter began on March 29 and finishes on June 11, so yes, there will be a few thousand students around. And this is California, so most of the students have a car.

Got both my pairs of tickets today! Whew. Now my plane just has to make it out to LA on time. :) (I had been looking for Ticketmaster as the return address, but it's the UCLA Central Ticket Office.)

The additional note included with the tickets says that a) ABC will be filming - probably for the DVDs, no surprise; b) reminder about the no cell phones thing (says to please leave them at home or in the car) and c) parking is $10, enter off Sunset, doors open at 6:30.

Might you have been reading info about the "finale party" that the winner of the ABC promo contest gets to attend that was "provisionally scheduled for May 13th"? If so I believe that the event described is the Lost Live celebration itself.

That said, given the momentous occaison, I am sure there is likley to be some kind of aftershow party after the concert for those involved in the show, much like there would be after any eventful concert, play or event.

Jo Garfein - There will be a Red Carpet before the event. I assume it will be outside, so I recommend that fans get there early for a chance to see the cast & crew. I will try to find out more details for everyone :)

Kevin Tong who started the page, is the artist of "The Hatch" and his art work will be on display @ LOST live

Composer Michael Giacchino will conduct a live orchestral performance, featuring the music of “Lost,” to celebrate the upcoming series finale. The concert will also feature appearances by LOST cast members, including Nestor Carbonell, Michael Emerson, and Jorge Garcia. In addition, a special preview of the penultimate episode will be screened immediately after the concert.

There’s been a lot of talk about what I am doing or what my involvement with the LOST LIVE Final Celebration is. If you’re a LOST fan, you know how they like to keep you guessing. I have been sworn to ultra secrecy. All I can say is that I plan to attend the event and have a wonderful time.

There’s some info at http://damoncarltonandapolarbear.com/dcpb/new/, but as usual, it probably raises more questions than answers.

my question is what time would be the best for getting there early and scouting out the best place near the carpet area? :71:

I was planning on getting there very early. Just to check out what was there and give myself enough time to find it. :)

I'm slightly worried about getting in at the moment. I bought my ticket using my bank card and then reported it lost a few days later. On tm's site it says for ticket collection you need id and the card that was used to pay for the ticket. I'm hoping that the new card will be ok as it has my name on it after all and I have my passport for id 2.

Map of UCLA again (http://www.ucla.edu/map/ucla-campus-map.pdf)

The open area behind Royce Hall, where the Shapiro Fountain is, that's where they hold the UCLA Festival of books. I've walked that area many times, and parked down in P2, beyond Schoenberg Music building, it's not a terrible walk, so you should be able to do that in just a few minutes. As to having access to the building, I don't know. Most of the times I've been on campus has been for events like Festival of Books and they have all the buildings open to give access to restrooms. You might google the UCLA website and look for info on the building and give someone a call there, get yourself a tour maybe.

In years past, we have hung out in the Ren Lobby - which is huge - waiting for others to show up. If you're unable to locate anyone who has already checked into their room, then that is the best place to hang and be on the lookout for fellow Lagers

As I told someone in another thread who was worried about recognizing other Lagers who you only know by their screen names, it helps to look at pics from DLAs and LWs past and start placing some names with faces. At the very least, the pics of OldManFan, halfrek and Carencey - the party organizers - will definitely come in handy the first day or two ;)

Carencey - YAY for tickets!! One less worry for this week :)

It's helpful to read reviews on Yelp before heading to a new place.. Although each event might be different it sounds like no food is offered there, and parking is daunting.. On the GREAT side, acoustics make this a great place to see an orchestral concert. Nice. :)

http://www.yelp.com/biz/ucla-live-royce-hall-los-angeles
some snippets from reviews:

First UCLA is confusing to the uninitiated. Also, for directions or navigation use the address on Yelp, not on the website. If your first time, give yourself a bit of extra time to get there. Once we parked and got there, had a great time.

There wasn't any food for sale, but that's always something you should pick up before or after the show.

Parking was $10 and a major, unmarked hassle. Lot 5 is on Royce (off Sunset), but you have to go to Westwood Plaza to actually buy your parking pass. Typical UCLA nonsense (I should know, I'm a grad).

First UCLA is confusing to the uninitiated. Also, for directions or navigation use the address on Yelp, not on the website. If your first time, give yourself a bit of extra time to get there.
10745 Dickson Plaza
Los Angeles, CA 90024
Neighborhood: Westwood

Also all those people (complaining) about the parking? If you turn off of Sunset onto Royce Dr. it is pretty hard to miss.

Seats to avoid: all of balcony row A (there's a metal bar at eye level), anything over seat number 225/226 A,B,C or D (you're looking sideways at the stage and may not be able to see what's happening on part of the stage), and the 50's closer to the stage (same problem as seats 225+)

BUT go see an orchestral show there! An orchestra sounds orgasmically wonderful in the space

Possibly the most beautiful out of all performances halls in the Los Angeles area, Royce Hall is the best place to go for concerts and other live performances
Yay :)

Parking and directions for Royce Hall (http://www.uclalive.org/visit_directions.htm)

I go to events at UCLA all the time and only once have had to deal with going to the central plaza for a parking pass. When there is an event in one of the big halls, there are parking attendants leading to the parking lot, its just the alternative if the lot fills up that might confuse some. But again, it's such a prominent building that if you end up in a different lot, finding directions to Royce isn't that hard.

As for eating on the premises, nope, that isn't really an option. Eat something decent beforehand, even if it means going through a drive thru on the way to the hall. Your tummy will be happy and in turn you will be happy.

As for dress code, there isn't much of a dress code except the expectations you place upon yourself. I may go geeky and wear jeans and a t-shirt, or I might dress up the jeans with a nice blouse, depends on the weather next week (btw, it's forecasting warm and sunny).

Map of UCLA again (http://www.ucla.edu/map/ucla-campus-map.pdf)Thanx, Yu...I was looking at that, but there's no scale on it, other than that Schoenberg and Royce are...about a soccer field apart! :71: But thanx for the other info! Maybe I'll get in touch with them and let them know I'm music faculty at a college on the opposite coast, and just wanted to see what they've got out there.

Seats to avoid: all of balcony row A (there's a metal bar at eye level)So that is the obstruction in Myha's and my obstructed seats. No big deal, there. The hall where I did my undergrad work and one of my masters' programs had the same thing, and it wasn't that big a deal. You shift in your seat a little to look through the bars, but it doesn't seem to me to be that big a deal.

Welcome to the Fuse, awesome that you got tickets to the concert. If you've looked at some of the other threads here, you'll note that most people are arriving on Thursday, throughout the day, so not much planning of events can happen when most people aren't actually around. But after the concert, once everyone makes it back to the hotel, it looks like many will end up down the street at the Mel's diner. So, feel free to hang in the hotel lobby in the afternoon and evening to meet people, or head over to Mel's afterwards and look for the loudest group. That will be us, guaranteed.

LOST: Second Time Around

A few months back, I got the amazing opportunity to work for LOST, perhaps the most compelling show on TV right now. I created a poster called The Hatch that was extremely popular among fans.
As the show winds to a close, they have some big plans and I was called on again. The Final Celebration will be an amazing event at UCLA's Royce Hall (sold out, sorry). The event will include an orchestral performance and some of the actors will be in attendance. I can't wait to see what goes down.

My art hasn't been fully revealed yet and I have been sworn to secrecy. Any information about my work will be revealed at Damon Carlton and a Polar Bear (http://damoncarltonandapolarbear.com/dcpb/new/?utm_source=TRAGIC+SUNSHINE+Newsletter&utm_campaign=00f8838f64-KEVIN_TONG_Illustration02_10_2009&utm_medium=email) in the coming days.

A heads up to those who did will call - if you used someone else's credit card, they must pick up the tickets with a photo id. No exceptions. The tickets are all already printed out. You can go pick up the tickets anytime between 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM from now until the event or at the event itself.

Yeah, how far of a walk is it from Royce to the Schoenberg Music Building? And what kind of identification does someone need in order to get into UCLA buildings? I just want to look around.

Not far at all, like a few minutes at the very most.

It depends on the building; some building have workers stationed that'll ask for your Bruin Card (only students have this), some have workers that won't ask, and some don't have anyone at all. I've personally rarely been asked, unless I was using the facilities such as the gym. Just don't at like a tourist and you should be fine getting around. :p

Just received from UCLA CTO:

To ticket holders for “LOST LIVE: The Final Celebration” at UCLA’s Royce Hall,

Please be advised that NO CELL PHONES, cameras or recording devices of any kind will be allowed into the theater. Please leave them at home or in your car.

Enter Royce Drive off of Sunset, signs and staff will direct you to Parking Structure #5. The parking structure opens at 5:30 ($10 cash). The theater opens at 6:30. The event begins at 7:30 pm.

This event is sold out. There will be no tickets available at the event, and the re-sale of tickets on the UCLA campus is strictly prohibited.

Thank you, and enjoy the event!

Seems pretty straightforward, although I am wondering where people are supposed to park if they want to arrive before 5:30 to wait for the red carpet event...and whether hundreds more people who don't have tickets will be showing up just to see the red carpet and taking up all the parking.

I just went over to Royce Hall and the Box Office was closed, unless there is another ticket office on campus, I only had a 20 minute pass and ran out of time.

The parking structure is pretty large.

If you go earlier you need to drive thru one of the Parking gates to buy your parking pass- it costs $10 to park on that campus if you aren't a student anyway. Don't see why you can't do it. There's the main parking gate on Westwood and there's supposed to be one on Sunset - the Sunset one would be closer. Need to look at the UCLA Campus Map again.

I don't care about the red carpet - but yes I was thinking of going early because.... I don't have a ticket yet and that will be my last resort. It's prohibited to sell tickets everywhere, but that just means more of a challenge. There will still probably be people selling.

So if any actual fans have a friend flake, keep me in mind! I can pay for the ticket in cash and buy you a drink after the show. :)

If you want to be cheap and save the $10, you could find parking on the streets near Veteran and Gayley, Gayley and Kelton, and that general area. The walk to Royce hall is a ways off, about 10-15 minutes. That's probably what we're going to do. It's usually 2 hours parking only until 6 PM, so you could leave you're car there and be fine through the event if you park a little after 4 PM.

What an incredible evening.. A great tribute to the show, to the cast and creators, to the orchestra and the man at that helm. We saw many of the cast enter the building and I have some pics, but when we got in and I saw how many marks were on the stage I knew we were in for a treat. Unbelievable turnout of cast members.

Damon and Carlton spoke for a bit, then introduced each cast member (thunderous, stomping applause after each).. Then said beautiful words about Michael Giacchino and read some parts of the script where the writers - knowing their words would be small in contrast to a score that could say more in a few notes than 1,000 words - wrote "insert Michael Giacchino" (or something like that).. Damon said the phrase "Giacchinius".... Funny..

Then the curtain lifted, revealed the orchestra.. Giacchino took the stage and it began. Beautiful, sweeping music that we all know and love.. but in this gorgeous acoustically brilliant venue, surrounded by 1500+ like-minded Lost fans. Goose bumps, tears.. Key clips playing behind them on screen.. "Life and Death" was gorgeous .. all the pieces were. The violin bows were like the ocean mimicing the song.. Slow, sad swells for touching pieces.. Abrupt, choppy movements for the fast, frenetic pieces.

Intermittently a cast member would take the stage and read a "Message from a Bottle".. Last words that those stranded on the island would say to a loved one. Very touching, very well done.

Then the BIG screen came down and next week's episode was played. No spoilers. Just saying it was incredible. And to see it played on the big screen, like a movie, with a booming sound system and scores of applauding, gasping, shrieking fans. What an experience. One of the Top 5 nights of my life.. As someone on Facebook noted: one of my "Greatest Hits".. Exactly.

Then after I got to meet Gregg Nations, followed by Mel's Diner with fellow Fuselagers. Such a great night.

Anybody else score the dharma water bottles by Vitamin water? If you didn't, this is what you missed out on:

http://i46.tinypic.com/1531bh0.jpg

One bottle is labeled as "renewal" and it says "only untouched water can off true sanctuary. to maintain our water's pristine condition, we keep it under quarantine. after all, it has the power to repel your enemies, so we keep a watchful eye out for any intruders. and we're not afraid to push them through a sonic fence. when it feels like your body's in the eye of a storm, this is the water you want in your canteen. so refresh yourself, renew your faith in mankind, and pretty soon you'll be as good as new. namaste."

The other bottle is labeled as "discover" and it says "feeling a little lost? this water beverage can help you find your way. in the interest of full disclosure, we must confess, this does not come to you straight from a beautiful tropical island. first, it has to go through an incredible ordeal. but let's be real. when it comes to finding your fate, there is no direct flight. so go ahead, take the plunge. stop using your head and let your inner pendulum guide you to the place you belong. here's hoping it's paradise. namase"

There's also a Hanso Foundation and Mittelos Bioscience logo on the bottle.

I opened one not knowing it had a dharma label, but as soon as I realized it, I went back and grabbed another one. I think there were a couple other different bottles.
