Oh man, this is already starting hilariously! But poignantly.

EdMuse

Woah, Brown Betty! Ram-a-lam!

Walter's listening to Yes? Not what I expected....

Astrid is such a lovely person.

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:03 PM
"Uncle Walter" aww
100%
"Stella" lol. She's totally telling Walter off.

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:05 PM
Walter called Ella Stella.

Walter is wicked stoned! Totally baked!
100%
Nice! Walter's telling a Dashiel Hammet pulp fiction novel!

Hey, I was just thinking about John....

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:06 PM
Oh, that's' funny. Anna Torv and Mark Valle just announced they are splitting. Eek, I wonder if that was a reference.

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:07 PM
Okay, that was weird...Walter singing -- is it "Tears for Fears"? -- coming from Rachel's mouth?

Haha..."medication"...right!
100%
That there is one cool hat!

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:09 PM
Oh, this is kind of silly. So far not loving it. Maybe I should smoke some Brown Betty to help? ;)

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:13 PM
Who is this music? NO! IT'S LANCE RIDDICK! ROCKIN'!

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:13 PM
Nice voice, Lance!

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:15 PM
I'm doing okay with this ep. I was on the fence about it before it came on, but I'm just taking it outside the storyline, like it's not even an episode of Fringe, and I'm enjoying it.

Nice phone on Nina's desk. Her hair looks awful, tho'.

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:17 PM
I don't understand the mix of old-fashioned and new technology!

A bit scary to kill the little girl's mom in the story, no?

I kind of hope that SOMETHING from this episode ties into the larger story.... but I'm thinking nothing will.

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:17 PM
Okay, so there's that grainy film look, again. Is that something they're doing for effect? I've been noticing it in LOST, too, and in my opinion, it just looks bad.

God's tom
04-29-2010, 09:19 PM
Love the retro Massive Dynamics sign!...and I wont even comment on Nina's hairstyle!:roflmao:

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:21 PM
I don't understand the mix of old-fashioned and new technology! It's a look, just something to make it storybookish, you know? Always reminds me of the movie Brazil. Very surreal.

A bit scary to kill the little girl's mom in the story, no?I was thinking that.

I kind of hope that SOMETHING from this episode ties into the larger story.... but I'm thinking nothing will.I don't know. The heart looks pretty Fring-y. My guess is that Peter's going to save Rachel by giving her the heart.

And in a larger sense, my guess is that this is all serving as comic relief. Peter's going to show up at the end, and since the ep has been so frivolous, it's going to make that seem much heavier.

"Twoo wove!" Just like in The Princess Bride! :71:
100%
I kind of enjoy seeing Olivia and Broyles butting heads again. Just like early season 1.

Wow, Gene has a big role in the ep this week! :lol2:

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:23 PM
I like his lab in this story!

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:24 PM
I love all the silly do-nothing toys in the lab.

Nice! "Singing corpses!" :rotflmao2:

And Gene in polka dots!

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:25 PM
Oh, dear, singing corpses.... oh my.

So, Ed, you're saying that this story takes place in current times, but just has a retro look for fun?

Aw, Peter stole his heart..... :(

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:26 PM
Aw! Peter stole Walter's heart, and without it, he'll die! Aw!

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:26 PM
Nice singing, Astrid!

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:27 PM
Esther Figglesworth! Hahah! He totally did that on purpose!

Ooh! Astrid's got a great voice!

What show was that song from? Was that from A Chorus Line?

Okay, they're totally doing the LOST references on purpose! "She only calls me...when she gets LOST."

Ooh...nasty Observer!

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:27 PM
Is that Newton?

God's tom
04-29-2010, 09:28 PM
Is that a cow or a loaf of wonder bread?
Singing corpses?
Was that really Astrid singing?!!!!!!!

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:29 PM
Oh, was it the Observer? I thought it was Newton.

Yes, A Chorus Line.
100%
It's so weird seeing Olivia talking about men and love like this.

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:33 PM
Let me guess...Massive Dynamic holds the patent to the laser scalpel...yep! Imagine that! :71:

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:34 PM
The Watchers.

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:34 PM
Is that Newton?Nope! It was a "Watcher" :71:

"You're getting ahead of the narrative..." :lol2:

Nice! Way to break Nina's tail light, Liv!

Astrid makes Bell sound like Alvar Hanso....

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:36 PM
Oh dear, Belly and Nina in love....

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:36 PM
It's the window. And I love the video effect they did on Bell, there. Very old-fashioned TV looking.

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:38 PM
Mr. Gemini

Peter! Yay!

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:38 PM
Oh dear, Belly and Nina in love....
Yeah, makes me wonder how closely this story is based on in-show truth. Does Walter know something?

Peter to the rescue!

God's tom
04-29-2010, 09:39 PM
Peter rescues Olivia...never saw that coming!

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:42 PM
Yeah, makes me wonder how closely this story is based on in-show truth. Does Walter know something?

Peter to the rescue!

Yeah, Walter saying that Nina is dangerous and a liar... sounds like that must be how he really feels about her. I wouldn't be surprised if Nina is really in love with Bell, although I would guess he doesn't feel the same way in return.

Peter rescues Olivia...never saw that coming!

lol right? ;)
100%
Oh man, my Olivier shipperness is getting excited, even if it is just a potential dream "dream sequence" hook up.

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:45 PM
Peter's looking pretty slick in those duds!

Hey, it's "Freddie Freeloader"! I was just playing this song for a student early. There's a great recording of it, a transcription of this recording, in fact, but sung by Jon Hendrix, Bobby McFerrin, Al Jarreau and George Benson.
100%
Wow...think of the fact that this is Walter's story...is he saying he is responsible for "The Pattern"?

Certainly, he feels guilty for the Cortexiphan experiments.
100%
The capsule!

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:47 PM
He steals children's dreams!? Awww....

Sheesh, crazy fight scene. Olvia in her pajamas.

God's tom
04-29-2010, 09:48 PM
lol right? ;)

We knew he was gonna show up sooner or later!

Wow - the beacon!

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:49 PM
Okay, I'm now officially unable to figure out what of this story is coming from Walter, and what, if anything, is not.

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:49 PM
Yeah, Ed, I think he feels responsible and is probably mostly responsible (with Bell) for the Pattern....
100%
Okay, I'm now officially unable to figure out what of this story is coming from Walter, and what, if anything, is not.

What do you mean? Isn't he telling the story completely?

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:50 PM
Okay, I'm never going to get upset over someone calling an episode of a TV show "filler" again. Clearly, a filler ep is not necessarily a bad thing!
100%
No, no, no, wait, no, that's not how the story can end...

Oh, yes, of course...Twoo Wove to the rescue!

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:53 PM
Oo, I love this song! Stevie.

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:55 PM
Walter is the bad guy in his own story?

God's tom
04-29-2010, 09:55 PM
Please dont sing, Olivia!
(Could this get any cornier?)

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:55 PM
Walter invented the capsule? Or maybe Walternate?

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:56 PM
lol they are TOTALLY invoking The Princess Bride, and Fred Savage telling how you REALLY tell a story.

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:58 PM
Ella to the rescue! Fixing the story!

And we end with Peter and Olivia dancing to "Blue Moon".

And in walks...not Peter. Oh well.

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 09:59 PM
I just gasped when I saw the Observer.

Uh oh, what warning?

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 09:59 PM
Okay, very odd ending. Anyone have any idea what the Observer was talking about? Warning?
100%
Okay, LL, what's the verdict....did it work for you?

God's tom
04-29-2010, 10:01 PM
What warning is the observer refering to? Someone refresh my memory.

EdMuse
04-29-2010, 10:01 PM

LOL! I'm guessing nobody really felt glued to the tv this time.

LostLaura
04-29-2010, 10:11 PM
My verdict is that I liked it but didn't love it. I wish they had done a more full musical episode set in the '20s or '40s or something. This seemed kind of half-done to me.
